Elo hell is real!!!

By this i do not mean that there are particular elos where it is impossible to climb. What I mean is that when I see people post things about the only common factor in your games is you, yea I agree with that 100%, but when they start doling out statistic numbers like its as simple as that, well that's just a load of bollocks.

Anybody who thinks that is true and believes every person belongs in their current elo does not understand probability. I hear this alot ( you are not a troll and there are 4 people on your team that may troll but their are 5 people on the other team that may be trolls therefore you have a much higher chance of getting a troll on the other team than on your own). Yea that is true but say you flipped a coin. You have a 50% chance of either getting heads or tails. Let's say you flipped the coin 10 times. So we should get 5 heads and 5 tails right? Well maybe but probably not because that is not how probability works. It just states the most "probable" outcome. You could flip the coin 30 times and get heads 30 times in a row! It is all chance.

This is where I think the elo system is flawed. You could play 20 games and get bad players(aka players who had the good fortune of raising past the elo that they belong), trolls, afks, etc all 20 games and not a single one of those on the other team. Sure I myself could possible solo carry some of those games but the current state of the game requires so much team based objectives that its nigh impossible. I think that riot should implement some kind of individual based skill rating which should be used to place in you matches. Let the trolls and baddies play with each other while the individually skilled play together. I think this would make for a much better match making system. Do you guys have any ideas on how to improve the match making system?

The probability of getting 30 heads in a row is 1/2^30 or 1 in 1,073,741,824. There are not even 1 billion players in league.

the point is that yet it is still possible. Maybe not probable but possible.

are you the unluckiest player in league? well you still wouldn't lose 30 games in a row.

I actually know something about statistics. "yeah that's possible" isn't an argument. There's certain events that in principle, while possible, are so improbably that they are stated to be impossible. For example did you know that it is possible that heat flows from cold places to hot, instead of hot to cold? but the probability is essentially zero. Not exactly zero but so close to zero that it's almost certainly impossible.

Its not an argument its a matter of fact lol... its almost impossible to win the lottery yet people do it. You are reading wayy too much into the numbers my friend.. they are just random numbers to make a point. I don't think its hard to fathom the idea that someone can play multiple games in a row where that player must play against opponents that are much better than his/her teammates. That person plays perfectly every game but his/her teammates feed/play poorly. How many of those games do you really think 1 person can carry?

We both have a 51% win rate you just have about 300 more games than me. Your champion stats are not that good as well. So essentially it comes down to basing a players skill on the amount of games he/she plays not their actual skill.

I was plat 500 games ago back in May. I peaked plat 1 50 LP after about 400 games or so. I ended s5 plat 1. I'm just not good enough to be diamond so I'm stuck here. I'm at the elo where I belong; so are you.

The difference between you and me is that my stats are against high plats and low diamonds while your stats are against mid golds. Why do you want to make this about personal skill lol when 1. it's not since you were talking statistics, which I know about and 2. you aren't even better than me in personal skill. The difference between me and you is the same or greater than the difference between you and a silver.

bro please lol if you can't comprehend what I have been talking about then you know nothing about statistics and again the only difference between me and you is 300 games. Again we have the same win %.

If you have nothing constructive to add to the post about the current match making system and just want to keep arguing about an arbitrary value I used to make a point, please do not comment.

  1. you submitted your ideas to a public forum. I don't have time to educate you but I've done it anyhow. If you don't want to learn, then it's not my loss.

  2. I was plat 300 games ago too, so uh, good luck getting to plat lol? Cya here in 300 games, or not. Depends on if you are able to learn.

  3. I wasn't on a 51% win rate when I was gold 2.

You use 20 games in your references. I believe the bare minimum that has been said to estimate your true Ranking is 100 games. If you are playing less than 200 ranked games a year and you complain about matchmaking then you may be better than your Ranking but I don't think you deserve a higher ranking.

The number of games as a reference is irrelevant. You can play 1000 games and it can happen 1000 times in a row. That's not probable but it is possible. I think you are missing the point of my post. MMR and ranking are based on winning and losing. The fact that a rank is given to demonstrate a player's individual skill but the ranking comes the skill of a team makes no sense to begin with.

In all those 100 games you play 90 of them you could have teammates that were far less skilled than your opponents. You yourself nor the current ranking system have no real way to measure a person's skill level without actually watching the person play.
