What is wrong with soraka?

Okay, so ive been gone from the game for over 2 months now. I come back thinking well, theres probably changes an new toons, an such. Okay, i expect some changes, it happens. Nerfs are to be expected cause hey, riot doesnt actually know how to balance a toon out with out ruining the toon for a couple months. (By which they undo some or nerf everyone else)

ahem I'd like to pose a question now. What, the hell, happened to one of the only real healer/support toons, soraka? Now before someone jumps up an goes on about supports, id like to point out that soraka an sona, are some of the only toons who could target heal an buff. Soraka has lost the ability to heal herself, her heals now also rip out her life an make using her as healer or support worthless in that regard as well as the fact that the heal she gives doesnt do dick for shit in the long run cause its not that big...oh no, 150...imma save the world now. Her mana restoring buff for others is gone an its been replaced with that worthless piece of shit silencing an 'binding' field (really? whos friggen stupid enough to be in it till the damn thing goes off like 2-3 secs later? Any half decent player would know to move...god) they then changed her passive...whooo...feel my excitement, she can now run to injured teammates faster to throw away her life an shorten the field worth of herself trying to heal them while throwing her own life away while making it easier to kill her...the only things the same with her are her q an r...cept q actually does less damn damage now, it barely effects the people ur fighting...never mind that it barely even when boosted hurts minions...her R is about all that hasnt been shat on.

wow...so, riot, can i get a refund for the crap you've served me through soraka? she worthless as a toon now...her field worth is literally worthless...son of a b....soraka for years is one of the only toons i've played with...

u just dont knw how to use her.....u made 0 valid points.......she can heal massivly u just have to itemize right

So the fact that her buff is gone, her heals hurt her an dont restore near what they used to an that her only attack hits for less as well are not valid points? ._.

Her heal was massively buffed, her self heal is gone (in return she got that massive healing), except she now heals herself if she lands her Q on enemy champions (so if you have mana you can still heal yourself huge amounts). Instead of getting a targetted silence she now has an AoE silence field and root, and her R actually is better (gets rid of GW before healing).

Kiznile1 votes

i tip my cap to you, i didnt know about the R getting that. But her silencing field really isnt all that special, we traded a targeted silence/targeted mana heal for team mates line partner to fight longer, for a small area silence that if they move they miss the second portion which roots since it takes so long to do so.

You can use the first half to protect someone, or you can use the second part to deny passage, or you can combo on another cc and get both parts.

Well Sorakas now a risky pick for me(kinda like first pick Nasus in ranked) she really cannot do much other than heal no more AoE mr shred no more point click silence, best shit ever

Her healings definitely better than it use to be but she kinda just falls off later on when either they get fed(unforeseen things like this make it risky) or it just hits late game where everyone hits truck loads the increasing popularity of morello doesnt help

other supports remain pretty darn useful, cuz idk.. CC infinietly scales and doesnt fall off

Way to complain about everything instead of actually learning how to play the character. Soraka is still an amazing support. She ain't rocket science.

I have tryed, i spent 8 god damn hours, 3 in bot an 5 in regular matches trying to re-familiarize myself with her an working out new item set ups...but theres no safe way to counter her lack of attack, life loss from heals, or that the heals do less.

CharQueen1 votes

There are tons of ways to counter her loss of Attack and HP. You land her meteor, you get HP. It sounds like you want to carry the game on Soraka's back. That simply won't happen. And if you have an issue with her losing even more HP besides healing, then your placement must be awful.

Also, grammar and spelling. Look presentable.

Well, that's 5x stronger than Sona's heal, with 3x the ap ratio, on a lower cooldown?

but it also takes a chunk out of her life with each use an stops being useful at 25%. Now i understand, well kizzy, same thing when it ran on mana right? true, but you could build items that make mana regen a breeze, where as for health your have to lean more towards the potions an such. Spend so much right out for an item that helps you regen faster or have to keep wasting money on little items to keep healing your self to even be able to use it?

You only really need mana regen. Her heal does costs health, yes, but her Q lets her gain back truckloads if she lands it on champions. Ever landed a 2-3 champion Q? Lots of health back to sustain your team.

She's very different and takes getting used to, but she's in a good spot, in my opinion.

Bodkins Odds2 votes

Ah, here's your problem. Build some AP and land your Q's. My advice is to stop building Amulet of Ascension and start building Frost Queen's Claim, Soraka isn't a passive aura support any more, she's a poke/zoning support. Your heal only takes 10% of your max health, and your Q heal has a decent AP ratio that they just doubled.

And remember, her new E is such a good zoning tool that they had to nerf it's cooldown, don't put it where they are put it where they want to be. A good Soraka is an even more annoying Banambulance than old Soraka, but for different reasons. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

raises hand

Why are you calling champions "toons?"

Kiznile1 votes

faceplam i caught that when you pointed it out...other online games, my bad there.

Bodkins Odds1 votes

It's okay, I make the same mistake all the time.

Leti the Yeti1 votes

11~ years of online gaming and I've never used the term "toon" lol

glad someone asking, it was weirding me out too

She still has a point and click silence. It just lasts shorter if they move (which btw prevents them from attacking).

Duke Anax1 votes

You have no idea what you are talking about. I main Soraka and i can tell you she is overpowered as shit right now.

When you build a bit of AP and land your Starcalls in a teamfight you are harder to kill than Mundo.

As for damage: I can 1v2 a lot of botlanes, mostly poke though.

Fashion Mage1 votes

She's definitely not overpowered, but she's certainly not weak either. Soraka isn't difficult to kill at all assuming that she doesn't Starcall like three people with 500AP, and let's not joke about Soraka's damage, it's terrible. Not that there's anything wrong with that, since she's strong in other areas (amazing healing and Equinox). If you're maxing W in lane, I honestly can't imagine how bad the enemy has to be to get 1v2'd by a Soraka's poke.

Duke Anax1 votes

A yeah that's the thing I max E first and sometimes even Q second. W doesn't scale that well and I rush AP and cdr, usually Morello and Mejai.

I think I dropped my mmr though, by trying out stuff with other champs, so may be that I'm just way ahead of my game when I do play Soraka.

Fashion Mage1 votes

W's scaling appears bad at first glance, but you should note that healing AP scaling isn't "reduced" by MR like damage AP scaling, and it's also on a 2 second cooldown at max level. So 0.6AP is actually really good scaling for a heal (or perhaps you were just referring to its level scaling?). I also rush AP and CDR, both are needed for ally-saving heals (from my experience). Spellthief's helps a lot to afford AP as well (despite many people thinking that AP is impossible to build on supports).

I'm actually curious about maxing E first in lane. I've heard some say that the poke from E is really strong if maxed first. I was a little skeptical when I first thought about it, but thinking about it more, I'd like to try it out for myself.

Duke Anax1 votes

Yeah In that context I meant the rank scaling not the AP scaling. W get's the full 0.6 AP on rank one, additional ranks don't do much, unless you lack AP. That's what I meant when I said it doesn't scale very well.

The cooldown scaling on W is usefull, but I only need that in teamfights, not really in lane.

The reason why E first, is simply that it has by far the best rank scaling and the abbility can have an enormus impact.

I understand i maybe leaving their original question here, but it is still somewhat similar. Ive watched over 50 games of players using this new soraka. Ive tried this new soraka a few times but had to stop since she was costing me the game every time when compared to other champs in a support role. Soraka was my Go to champ when i was in a serious mood to play and I could easily play against every support champ thrown at me (win some lose some, but still did decent). I read alot on these forums that I should stop playing her as a support but keep her only as a support because there is literally no way she can do anything else now. But that I mean not to build support items and to get everything with AP. But every single diamond game I have seen, was the complete opposite. Every single one of them got support items. I would dare say about 45 or so of those games the soraka's team lost since she has no presence late game for the most part.

But say i don't do what they do in Diamond or from my experience as a support ( I main Support). Say i decide to go the route i go with support fiddles for instance. With fiddles I can clear a wave when My adc is away and wont be back in time. I can keep champs in check and even get or steal a few kills with the ult. So the cash flow is there and the odds of his E hitting a champ is very high when there are almost no minions there (frost queen). But how can i get the same cash flow as a Soraka to support that kind of a build as I do on fiddles? The Diamond players can't do it. So how can a casual player such as myself get over 300 AP as a soraka before the game is over? She doesn't get many assists unless she wastes her R or have a very good jungler. So there is literally no way to accumulate as much gold to get these AP items that the forum says we should get. She needs boots, sightstone and perhaps frostqueen (if you can touch them) first before any other AP item. Is there any recorded feed I can see to give ideas on how to actually play this new soraka that agrees with this forum.

She has always been a situational pick and many of her weaknesses then followed with her now. I can accept that, but making her a ranged melee bleeding healer with no noticeable HP regen outside her Q that barely ever hits her target unless she can see the whites of the other champs eye, really makes her feel like a troll champ. At least Taric is tanky with a stun.

Truly Prideful1 votes

Where is my poll option thst says she's fine? She's a lot more involving to play now and once you get used to landing the Qs and managing your health, she honestly feels a lot more powerful than before. If you want someone to live, you can make them live. Not everyone is going to like her changes, but some people love them. She plays a lot differently now, you just have to give her more of a chance.
