Bring Back Teambuilder

Rhinojuicer··22 votes·781 views

My friends and I enjoy playing League of Legends together but find the new champion select/dynamic queue system to not be enjoyable. We would like to play 3-5 man normals instead of 3-5 man ARAM, but the current system does not fit us. I posted a support ticket and they instructed me I should post my comments here, so here's to hoping they bring back Team Builder.

I don't understand your problem with new champ select, really. I mean, the only difference between it and team builder is you're not 100% guaranteed to be the role you want(but in my experience, in a 3+ person group, you're probably going to get your primary 95% of the time). The only drawback compared to team builder might be playing off-meta groups--which, I have still faced in new champ select, they don't always work--and I can see how someone -might- want to be able to do that again.

But I also imagine the number of players who want to do that consistently are fairly low. And Riot can not please everyone, hence, why new champ select replaced team builder. It fits more of the players needs and desires, it gets rid of most of the team-select anxiety that some players suffered from, and gets rid of the griefing in champ select where people would fight over roles. Team builder filled the void between old champ select and new champ select for the time, but, it is no longer necessary.

I mean, you can still play 3-5 person groups in new champ select... so... yeah

Your experience is INCREDIBLY limited. There's plenty of threads (and anecdotal experience) of people not getting their primary. IMO, if you get your primary more than 50% of the time, you're doing good. I've stopped playing due to the Season 6 changes, but in preseason I wanted to give the new draft a fair shake. I main adc, but I like playing in bot lane. If I queue'd bot/supp, I almost always got support. Everyone says "take another popular role INSTEAD of support (which kills the support pool, but I didn't want to play ONLY support). I queue'd bot/top. My first 3 games with bot as primary top as secondary I got top ALL THREE TIMES. I have zero interest in playing mid, so I didn't want to queue bot/mid. If I ever play again without TB, it'll only be normals which I nearly quit previously before TB because I hate normals.

Also, unlike TB, in the new mode you're not assured of your champ, but since my champ isn't FotM or an "obvious ban", that bothers me less, but other people take issue with it.

Irony.

I've queued as Mid/ADC every ranked game so far. By everyone's "anecdotal experiences", it's the most popular role, I should have the hardest time getting it. 28 games so far, 17 mid (60%), 11 ADC (40%). That's on par with what the old system was, where over the course of 182 games I got mid 64% of the time.

As I stated at the beginning, for me personally I stopped playing about when the season started, my PERSONAL experience is based on pre-season and my numbers only on ranked games. But there's plenty of threads about it.

I notice you got your secondary 40% of the time (by my own experience you were choosing from the 2 most popular roles, put anything else, but especially JG or SUPP in the secondary slot and watch that primary number fall precipitously). I'll give you that in your initial post you said in "3+ person groups" and I skimmed over that. But I don't think team-builder (which this THREAD is about) was heavily populated with 4 & 5 man groups and I'd wager even the 3-man teams were limited in comparison.

EDIT: fyi, I also did not mean to state that your experience was limited in terms of number of games, I meant that if you get your primary role 90%+ of the time, then YOU are an exception case as that is CLEARLY not the norm.

If you have a 5 man team you can just play blind pick and then you are guaranteed the role and champion you want (assuming, you know, you are actually friendly with the people in your premade team).

If you have a 5 man pre made and everyone knows what role they want to play, and you want bans/no mirror matchups, you can also still do draft mode and everyone ignore the role they were formally assigned to.

If you are in a 5 man premade and you guys can't decide the role you all want either stop making premades with strangers or get better friends.

I don't think Teambuilder will be coming back anytime soon. They haven't said anything about it so I'll assume they have no intention of adding it back for a while. There have been a plethora of posts on the forums that accrue about 10-30 likes, but never go much further, and this is one of those posts. The reason it won't happen is because dynamic queue was made to grow and evolve, so it will benefit people the more it exists. If you want to get teambuilder I suggest instead of putting little petitions on the forums you try posting possible changes to the current system.

I personally quite enjoy the new system, but there are times in which I wish I could guarantee my role in a game, instead of possibly playing something else. But I do understand the logic behind it. There simply aren't enough players who want to play support and (I think) marksmen (maybe not after this new meta) so I understand why secondary roles exist.

So stay vigilant and try to branch out. If you can play all roles fluently and profeciently then it won't even be a bother to play the majority of the roles. But hey, that's just my solution.

Maybe they should bring it back for a week, just so we can get all of the icons.

I loved Team Builder when it was available because you were guaranteed your champion and role before the game started, but I like Dynamic Queue even more.

You are guaranteed your two best roles, and you aren't locked into a suboptimal team composition before the team is built. You aren't locked into a triple-AP comp. You aren't locked into a Yasuo knockup comp with no allied knockups. You aren't locked into a Mordekaiser bot lane with a ranged support. You can change what you want to play in champion select to better fit your team composition, which is a significant upgrade over Team Builder. This is especially true for a 3-5 man premade, where it's extremely likely that everyone gets their intended role due to everyone being able to select their role.

The biggest argument I see for bringing back Team Builder is that you get to practice one champion a lot, but unless that champion gets banned a lot that really isn't a big deal. Many champions have multiple roles they can succeed in, and even if it isn't the role you want to learn the champion in it's still a good excercise to play champions in different roles. It can teach you a lot of aspects of the champion that you may not always see when playing them in one role, such as different lane matchups or for just better learning fundamentals about either the game or the champion that don't normally see a whole lot in that role. I personally remember improving my Nautilus jungle by playing him in top lane, where I learned how to optimally clear waves, and by playing him support, which helped me improve my initiations, and both dramatically improved my Nautilus play.
