@Riot: Any plans to implement additional rune paths in the future?
I feel that the new rune system is at it's best when champions have at least one moderately powerful "Keystone Fantasy." The state where the player's keystone choice is synergizing in an exciting way with a champion's kit, ala Ganplank with Kleptomancy, Hecarim with Predator, or Vayne/Kog'maw with Lethal Tempo. Keystone Fantasy is important in making a player's rune choice feel impactful during the game.
Obviously not every single champion in the game can be catered to in such a way, otherwise there would be no room for creativity and adaptable rune builds. Judging by some of the feedback I've seen over the past weeks regarding the new runes, a fair amount of complaints do stem from certain picks not having a very exciting choice for a keystone rune. Darius and Ivern immediately spring to mind.
With the implementation of the new rune system, certain champion archetypes, as well as individual champions, have been left in the dust. Juggernauts are a big example of this right now, judging by the feedback on these boards. Most of preseason 8 meta is being defined by how far champion picks can abuse the new keystones. It is probably safe to assume that Season 8 will be similar with small power adjustments here and there, as Riot does.
With all this in mind, is it possible that we may see new rune paths in the future, aimed at giving a larger pool of champions a Keystone Fantasy? Or is it more likely that we will see certain keystones adjusted and reworked to be more inclusive to a wider range of picks?
All of that being said, I think the new runes system is great! Much more accessible for new players, and keystones add exciting gameplay to a feature that was previously a statistical chore and burden.
