An idea that would improve upon the Ruby Sightstone

Grazer·8/15/2015, 2:19:54 PM·64 votes·11,009 views

So far the only item that builds out of the item 2049 Sightstone is the item 2045 Ruby Sightstone, right? Not many people build it until their last item, some not at all. I was thinking of ways to improve this, maybe making it cheaper or something... and then I came up with what I think is a decent idea.

Sightstone enchantments. I didn't come up with any great ideas for enchantments but here's just a few suggestions off the top of my head to show you what I mean.

Ruby Sightstone = Holds 5 charges instead of 4. Emerald Sightstone = Vision area is increased by 20% Topaz Sightstone = Wards can be placed from 33% further away. Diamond Sightstone = Wards last 30 seconds longer. Onyx Sightstone = Vision area is decreased to 20%, but the first enemy champion that is spotted by it will be Revealed for 5 seconds.

These are just examples, ignore them if you want. But the concept itself... what do you think?

First off, I'm pretty disappointed that I did a ctrl+f "Taric" and found no good jokes in this thread.

To the actual suggestion, the idea of having several sightstone enchantments is interesting, though I do wonder how much it could really serve to address the problem you're seeking to solve. If I had to guess, I'd say that the reason it's not commonly upgraded until later in the game is due to the fact that it doesn't add a ton of combat stats. However, it may also be that it's because it doesn't really add a new unique passive, which is essentially what your suggestion does. That said, I do wonder if spending gold on a non-combat passive would also lack appeal.

I'd also ask, is people not upgrading their Sightstones until very late in the game even an issue? Would players actually be more interested in Sightstone if they felt compelled to upgrade it before buying their Mikael's, Locket, Righteous Glory, etc.?

Mabye it could regenerate wards? So supports wouldn't need to B all the time to recharge their wards.

love the idea i think it would give the support role a lot more diveristy.

i know this has been suggested a couple times in a couple post (think someone mentioned it in the comments here as well) but what about upgrading sightstone into something to give you a certain kind of stat? ruby sightstone would be your health one, there could be a amour one, a magic resist one, ability power, cdr, and so on and to keep it from being abused from laners/junglers you could make it so to be able to upgrade it you need a support item. i really like the idea and i think it would give you more options depending on the current state of your team and the other team

For Onyx, did you mean by, or to 20%. This is very important.

A reason to build a higher level sightstone might be nice, but truth is it would be just like the different enchants/blade combinations for junglers. There will be one that is superior to all others (increased vision area, for example) and would be the only one built. There aren't reasons to have the other "enchants" so it would just be wasted coding. Like poacher's knife or essence reaver, they would just be wasted item code. As we have it right now, adding the little bit of health it has is an alright option to upgrade your sightstone to. It doesn't make it an overpowered option for someone trying to scale their percent health, but does provide a little resistance from dying in the late game.

How about Ruby sightstone makes your wards placed limit go from 3 -> 4. Then supports would have a reason to upgrade because it would allow for more vision, even if not a lot more.

dont forget we need AP sightstones for the mage supports or an AD sightstone for thresh

Had a similiar idea a while ago.

Ruby would give HP, Saphire would give Mana, Emerald would give Critical Strike, Topaz would give flat ap.

The enchantment idea would be pretty neat to go along that idea though. A Blitzcrank may want a Saphire Sightstone over Ruby for the Mana. A Morgana would build the Topaz for the AP and finally a champion that utilizes Critical strike that builds the item Zekes could get the Emerald one for more crit chance.

See, I like this (as a support/top main). In bot lane, as a support, sometimes you get behind and you have to go straight utility. I have been a Sona with Mikeal's, Harbinger, Twin shadows, Sightstone before. They all have stats yes, but I needed their utility more than the stats. Often times, the best way to come back in a game is through vision. Yes, the trinkets are nice, but once I get the sightstone I swap my trinket for either red or blue depending on what is needed from my team. For those who are behind but need a substantial buy for vision, these upgrades would be helpful. Especially Topaz, cause with the mastery and that, you can plant wards more safely and get the vision while avoiding combat. With the sightstone already taking up a spot in the inventory, might as well make it adhere to any situation the support needs it to. Though, instead of Ruby holding 5 charges, maybe make it so you can have a max of 4 wards out on the field? Little bit more interesting so it is a viable option compared to the others.

I've never really thought that combat stats on sightstone is the way to go. You don't get a great deal of HP for the gold you spend.

I'm sure some people would love an AD sightstone or something (LeeSin mains) but I think upgrading the wards or sightstone active itself is smarter.

Here are my 2 cents...perhaps give the ruby sightstone an Unique Passive that gave you like either AP, Bonus Health/mana regen/ etc for every ward you have laid (including pinks!) OR for every ward charge left you get a certain amount of stats previously listed. It would allow the item to not be AS useless late game, and give a small incentive to keep it around instead of selling it. I don't know...maybe build off that idea? xD

Rather than this we need to reverse the change that capped us to 3 wards in the first place. I should be allowed to spend my gold to ward the entire map if my team does not want to. I am totally fine with a team cap on wards but not individual. We also need a dedicated slot for wards outside of trinkets perhaps even consumable item slot(s). The ruby sightstone should just have a 3rd upgrade which adds to build.

KilljoyX8/16/2015, 1:40:01 AM1 votes

Can we just roll sightstone and aegis into one item? Supports would love you forever.

Squidkidd8/16/2015, 1:46:36 AM1 votes

What I think they should do with Ruby Sightstone is make it so that they have 5 charges; but make it so when you have all 3 wards placed with Ruby Sightstone on the field, the wards that you placed are given a certain percentage increase to how big the radius of sight is. If a ward would disappear and you place another one on the field to bring it back up to 3/3, the ward you just placed would also have increased radius of vision.

Just my 2 cents.
