Would You Guys/Gals Want Item Sets on the New Launcher

To me item sets have always been a good edition to the old/legacy client and they helped with people making builds but they don't have the item sets slot on the new client and I was just wondering what your opinion was on it?

It shouldn't even be a question. The fact that they weren't added is just illogical.

Their excuse is their focus on Replay/Sandbox. Even though I and many others wanted these features, it's ridiculous that the announcement of these features seemed like bonus features added to already finished client, not something that replaces features that were already in legacy client. When I was excited about Replays I really didn't know it will be excuse for not bringing Item Sets back, because that's just stupid.

DrCyanide16 votes

Notable features missing from the new client:

  1. Featured Game Modes
  2. Bots in Custom Games
  3. Item Sets

There's probably others, but those are the ones I've noticed missing so far.

Riot literally said they were adding 1,2 and that is why the client is called "beta client" come on man.

Riot spoke up and said "Right now we are trying to get the new client up to where the legacy client is in features, then we will add more"

It takes time to code an entirely new client and make a small amount of bugs. Riot imo has done a GREAT job with the new client and the only complaints people have are:

  1. "It lags to much" - Translated to not stupid is "I lag to much", if you disagree you can find that this new client uses HALF of the resources the old one used.

  2. "____ isn't in the client but it was in the old one" - Again, riot said they are going to make the new client up to par with the legacy.

  3. "It is bugging out!" - "Beta"

DrCyanide7 votes

There are varying degrees of "beta", and every company uses the term differently. Some beta projects are entirely done as far as the end user is concerned, with only under the hood changes to be made (such as the new client leaving orphan processes behind). For a rolled out by default beta, you should expect all the old functionality to still be there.

I Q1 votes

But riot isn't "Leaving them behind" they are making them.

DrCyanide4 votes

Where did I say they were "leaving them behind"? I said that a beta which is rolled out by default to users should have all the functionality the users had before at the time it's given. If Gmail rolled out a new beta interface by default you'd still expect to be able to attach files, regardless of how often people actually attach files.

The new client, at present, offers nothing new but takes away several things (and murders my ears in champion select due to ban quotes not respecting volume sliders). There's no reason to use it besides volunteering to find bugs, which requires people posting about what they notice wrong or missing. Priorities will most likely be determined by which features people report missing the most, as those are the ones they're looking to use.

I Q2 votes

leaving orphan processes behind

I shortened it to "leaving them behind" since i dislike the word Orphan

The new client, at present, offers nothing new

The replay system says otherwise. The Patch Notes in the client says otherwise The FPS increase says otherwise The lore in the client says otherwise The Ability Scalings in the client says otherwise etc

Priorities will most likely be determined by which features people report missing the most, as those are the ones they're looking to use.

Item Sets is the most requested right now, but it is DEFINITELY not the most needed.

Actually, closing the friendslist is the most.

I shortened it to "leaving them behind" since i dislike the word Orphan

... You have no clue what I was talking about.

Orphaned processes is the term for when an application starts a subprocess (sometimes known as a child process) but then quits/dies before the child process completes. These orphaned processes where visible in the Task Manager after you closed the League Client. To my knowledge, "orphaned processes" is the only term used to describe this.

The replay system says otherwise. The Patch Notes in the client says otherwise The FPS increase says otherwise The lore in the client says otherwise The Ability Scalings in the client says otherwise etc

I haven't noticed an FPS increase (many people complain about it lagging though).

I haven't looked to see if any new lore was added (as oppose to the short bio), nor too see the ability scalings. Those would indeed be new, and a step in the right direction.

I haven't noticed patch notes in the Client either, but maybe they're just blending in with the ads for me.

Access to the replay system is indeed new, I spaced that one.

Umbra Ionia2 votes

Tbh some people like me have better fps with the old client.

ShaolinToilet4 votes

Fps increase is bullshit and you know it. The client has nothing to do with in game.

I Q2 votes

The client runs in the backround as you play the game, so yes it does effect the game.

It takes around 1/2 the power from your computer of the old one.

Cool Lucas RGP1 votes

Has the thought, that maybe the lag comes from a bug, even crossed your mind?

Taric

I Q1 votes

If that is so, people should close the client while in game since you can do that now.

Battlecast Sona3 votes

you can opt out though. Nobody is forcing you to use the Beta client. Hell, even if you've downloaded it you can still convert to the legacy client.

DrCyanide3 votes

Being able to opt out doesn't mean that it should have been opt in by default.

Battlecast Sona5 votes

I dunno about you, but I got a pop-up that said "would you like to update to the beta client?"

I wasn't forced to opt in to anything.

ShaolinToilet3 votes

Once you accept it's a pain to go back though.

Battlecast Sona1 votes

Oh man, it's SOOOO difficult to click "launch legacy client" under your login info. SO difficult.

ShaolinToilet2 votes

I said it's a pain I didn't say it's the end of the world damn.

Im5951261 votes

Exactly! It's so annoying having to launch the game, have the client I don't want popup (Alpha Client), have to press "launch legacy client", then have to press launch again, and login in to the legacy client. Ugh such a pain...

Hella Kaiser3 votes

why do i have to use the beta client is the old one was far better?

I Q4 votes

You dont have to there is a "Launch legacy Client" button in the login screen

Hella Kaiser1 votes

OMG,THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I LOVE YOU

We're getting item sets, riot just said that they'll have to add it in later.

6Sfool12 votes

Biased as this poll is, let's call it a petition. And i'm signing it.

Kitty Hole5 votes

After all these years they announce that they're going to make a sandbox mode to test builds, but decide now to leave out the item builder. I hope that's not their intention.

S04 Lurox4 votes

Hey guys, the Alpha-Client-Team already said they are looking forward to implement this feature later on. But first they'll have to add the more important stuff and have to make sure the performance gets better.

Rogue Blitzwolf2 votes

^everyone complains Riot doesn't listen but when they post something about it no one reads it, and Riot gets blamed some more. Also yes I realize URF still hasn't been answered which I really want to play some URF. Also has Solo/Duo come out yet I haven't seen it.

6Sfool2 votes

Yeah... but in all of the comments they use the qualifier "if ever." They might put it off for a whole season.

DrCyanide3 votes

Performance will come first, them Featured Game Modes, then Bots in Custom Games, then Sandbox Mode, then something else will come up, then if they have time Item Sets.

In all honestly, it could be a full year until Item Sets get added back in.

I'm personally not sitting around waiting for it, I'm building my own Item Set editor. So far I've got it so you can see all the items and click on them to see their details. I've got a lot of work left to do (I'm probably only 40% done), but it'll certainly be available before a version is built into the client.

Worthless Tripod1 votes

No offense to you and your work, but I'd almost rather you didn't finish your project. Riot has pointed at 3rd party programs as an excuse to leave out the item set creator, and if you essentially do they're job for them, whose to say that they'll not just remove it from the client forever and force you (free of charge oh goody) to continuously update your own program? They could start to point at your program as the go to thing as they sit on their asses.

I don't know if this is what will happen... but the possibility scares me.

DrCyanide2 votes

I'm writing it in a way that should only require bug fix/cosmetic/functionality updates to be written by me. It currently knows how to copy the item info that the boards use, so as long as Riot updates themselves they'll update my app automatically.

Besides, no one said my version had to be pretty. I'm probably offending some artist at Riot so much they'll decide they need to put it in to avoid using what I'm making :P

Not only do items sets make it easier to navigate through relevant items, but there is a feeling of satisfaction when you buy one of those items, and it is checked off. Because the recommended tab isn't always optimal, and it makes me feel ever so slightly like I'm doing something wrong if I decide to not buy those recommended items.

kitcat3003 votes

I would like them to stay, but from what I understand it, Riot didn't necessarily want to remove them. It's just that everything has to be re-coded for the new client which means they are focusing on getting the bare essentials out first.

Since items sets are an optional system, and according to riot anyways, only a small fraction of players actually used them. So Riot felt that more important features deserved their attention.

That being said, apparently there were talks about re-prioritizing them, but I don't know the result of that.

We need item sets in the new launcher or just leave option to create them using the old one.(i can create them using old one for now so im fine) They r extremely usefull

Fuck yes asap

Draqone3 votes

I actually know how to make the item sets but creating them manually is a pain so I upvote.

Knight of Bronze2 votes

I don't think I could ever be able to learn a new champion without custom item sets.

runedara2 votes

I would just like it to have a history in item shop. If I buy an item 99/100 times put it up there.

Lestat S462 votes

YES! Thankfully all my Old item sets are still there for now but Im scared theyll disapear when the legacy client ends. They dont have the new items like redemption, knightsvow, and control wards in them and i cant Add them in either but thats a minor inconvenieve to go look for 3 items as apposed to every item i want. RIOT PLEASE BRING BACK ITEM SETS!

Sanctimonious2 votes

100%. It serves me better than any other feature, and helps me help my friends.

Almadeaus2 votes

" One feature that isn't being immediately brought over from the legacy client are item sets. However, your existing item sets will still continue to work and our third-party API will still allow you to download custom item sets from community developers for in-game use."

This statement is in the client Beta FAQ. Located here: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/230175788#h2

So it sounds like it will be implemented back in at a later time. Keyphrase = isn't being "immediately" brought over from the legacy

Also coming from The_Catopus from the Open Beta Q&A:

We're actually having to rebuild every feature for the client update, so our big challenge is deciding what order to build things in, not which things to remove. We had some data suggesting that very few players used the item set creator, so we decided to put it low on our list of priorities.

HOWEVER, we got a lot of messages from players about item sets, so we're having discussions internally about how we want to solve the problem. We'll update you when we figure it out.

In the meantime, item sets still work in games when you use the updated client, and you're free to edit them by launching the legacy client. But, like I said, we're still trying to figure out a long term solution.

Link for Q&A: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/5di4ej/ama_were_the_league_client_update_team_ask_us/

can use Ctrl+F to search "item sets" its like the first thing to show up.

Also for the guys upset about it, open beta was optional not forced, and you can switch back any time, as stated by someone else already.

As long as they are not shoved in some tiny little corner and don't get saved progress erased every time there's a new patch, I don't see why it's not there.

Or at least update the damn recommended item sets so it's not 2 years behind in meta.

It's not as resource-intensive as making an entirely different game mode plus the possible flexibility of the new client, so I don't see why not.

It'd only take like one person putting 8 hours or so into looking up every champ on pickbans or mobafire or metasrc and updating item sets that way, realistically. In fact, I'd even be down with item sets being removed from the game entirely (even though I create extensive item set lists to help me learn new champions efficiently) if someone went through a week and a half after every patch is released and updated all the recommended items to be current with meta picks. It'd take a lot less work, overall, than recoding an entire section of this wonky redundant ass old client.

Was anyone else forced to update to the New Launcher?

I had it already because I was beta testing it but about a week ago I was forced to update the old one into the new one that was being tested and now I only have the new launcher that came out. However, my sister still has the old launcher and she recently downloaded League. Is there a reason I was forced to update? Don't get me wrong, the New Launcher is sleeker but it's missing features like Item Set that I want to use but can't use now because I had a forced update?

I mean, it doesn't even hurt that it's there, so why not? It's very useful, but if people don't wanna use the feature, no one forces them.

mintymentos1 votes

not sure why they removed item sets. going back to the old one since it's not in the new one. I already made a post about it but until they implement it i would rather use legacy.

i put quite some effort to make the item sets i have made. I will once in awhile make some suggestions for the new client but hopefully they keep legacy around after open beta if they refuse to readd item sets
