Tanking for Assisting?

May be an unpopular opinion, but it would make sense if the person who tanked most of the damage got an assist credit even if they didnt happen to actually hit the enemy. Like if a WW ulted onto me, leaving me unable to move/attack but my teammates kill him before his attack ends. I tanked all the damage while giving my teammates the free kill and keeping them safe. Or if someone was to tank tower shots like a tanky sup to score his adc the kill without them taking the damage.[galio-happy]

Unless you had an item/passive that affected the enemy without dealing damage then I don’t think so. Something like item 3143 active or passive that can change the flow of the fight and help your team win. I don’t think somebody who got one shot by a zed should get an assist when they didn’t react fast enough to help.

This idea was going in the correct direction, I just don’t think that somebody who contributed nothing to a kill or fight should get gold from an assist by simply dying.

It’s one thing if a tank was in the middle of the fight, CCed the front line and got poked by a mage who then got one shot by the tank’s team’s assassin, in a case like this then I think an assist is fine if the tank didn’t deal any damage to the mage before it died.

It’s different if an ADC is instantly deleted by an assassin, but the assassin is soon killed by the ADC’s team, in a case like this I think the adc shouldn’t get an assist because he/she wasn’t contributing to the team at all and was punished because he/she was out of position (which was why the assassin could instantly kill the adc without being stopped by the adc’s teammates). This situation punishes the adc for being in the wrong place and puts him/her behind on exp, cs and gold from kills/assists. The tank on the other hand should be rewarded the assist because he was actively helping his team and the poke he got from the mage could be an important ability that lets the assassin jump in for the kill.
