What is the point of making you have to buy rune pages

Why do you still need to buy rune pages if you want more than 2!? You can change them in the champion select, so why not just make them free and have 20 pages together like old masteries? What is the point? Is it just a way of riot saying : "Give us more money or we'll piss you off by making you spend your entire champ select trying to change your runes"!? This is so dumb.

what they should of done is let each champ have 5 of their own individual rune pages so you can set up 5 different strats for each champ in your inventory. paying for additional rune pages is a very bad idea, when you rework it so you dont have to buy runes anymore.

and i have no idea what they were thinking with these 5 default pages they made up for us, but all of them are really bad. they only truly work for a select few champs each, leaving most of the champ pool needing to rely on user created pages instead.

it is as if a handful of devs worked on the default pages based on the champs they themselves mained, instead of the overall selection of champs.

There are a lot of things to complain about this preseason.

I think you quite possibly picked the dumbest idea.

Your rune pages are now free and customizable IN-LOBBY. That's fucking huge. I would've killed to have that 2-3 seasons ago, it's why I have 13 rune pages now. I think that having to buy pages is fair because you get 2 rune pages anyways. You're not obligated in the slightest to own additional pages.

The only real issues with the rune system is the loading speed and how people are unused to what they do, so it takes them a long time to set up runes.

There's no reason for them not to give us free runes if they are gonna make them changable, not being able to preset runes before the champ select is just an annoyance. Just imagine having two fucking pages for the old masteries.

Lol?

I only used 1 on my main, titled Mastery Page 2.

And another on my smurf, titled Standard ADC.

They're still RUNES Reforged, even if they're functioning more like Masteries.

No, we aren't talking about YOU. We're talking about most of the playerbase. And most of the playerbase including me were using 11-13 mastery pages made for each champion so we don't have to deal with setting them up every single champion select. There's just no reason they wouldn't make the pages free if they already make the runes themselves free.

Well you said "just imagine having two pages" so I did.

Look at it this way. Pretend it's a rune page that you can now customize. It's all about how you look at it and honestly from someone who has looked at it from both scenarios it's a refreshing change of pace. Now you don't have to sweat about buying all the runes and you can swap them out with better ones in champ select. They also are unique so that you can use ones tailored to specific scenarios so that when you go against Syndra you can take Nullifying Orb rather than "wew 12 MR."

It's much better, and I think having rune pages be buyable is definitely a fair trade off. They're still a business that needs to make money. And it's not like I'm gonna end up using more than 5 pages, max, trying to remember all this stuff.

It's like skins.

You don't have to buy them, but you can if you want to.

Riot wants to make money.

No, no. Skins are entirely cosmetic. Rune pages aren't cosmetic in the slightest. It's just a way of forcing you to spend your entire champ select changing your runes. If they already function like masteries then make them have 20 pages like masteries too ffs

If you are so slow at clicking that it takes you an entire champion select to make a mastery page, you're going to have way bigger problems when you get into the game.

if riot wants us to test out the runes for them, which is what this is, then we should have free rune pages to do so, alot of them. buying pages to test their new system, live, is bad form.
