Why Does Auto Fill Exist

Unchainedboar··2 votes·861 views

I have no idea how to play support and no desire to learn it, each time i am auto filled to this i end up feeding (not intentionally) i would MUUUUUUCH rather wait in a longer que then save 1-5 mins and have to play this terrible terrible role.

As a side note, autofill needs to be FIXED, but leaving it in place is fine. I got into a game the other night and was autofilled to support, my primary role selected was top. The top laner offered to switch with me, and revealed that he had main role selected support and was autofilled to top. Which makes absolutely NO SENSE to anyone.

that does happen.

as far for me i choose fill in about 85% of my games. cuz the champ i main plays in 3 roles 4 if needed. viable in any team comp. and i can play 3 roles really well 1 other i dont mind even though my adcs i play are bottom tier currently and when i get the one role i dont really like to play or care to ill say in chat hey any one want to mid ?im autofilled willing to swap with any role

if no takers. i play mid... and even though i dont really play it i do ok , all im doing by playing a role or champs im not use to is learning more about the game .

but to your point of your primary role was top and got filled to support and the top was primary support got filled to top needs to be addressed

Yea, the autofill system has come so far and I've seen every iteration of this game's systems (I was playing before Xin was released) and so far I can say currently I have the most fun playing and have the least complaints ever about the matching and role system.

i have played for a long time since end of season 2 /preseason 3 and every other post on the boards in someone crying foul how riot is doing them wrong and how horrible they are and blah blah blah its just a never ending circle jerk of tears.

what i do dont get if its so bad, so awful then why do you continue to play? wanna make riot notice something ... leave, uninstall. stop watching their pro scene so they stop making sponsor ship and ad revenue.

its liek every one bitching about walmart and how bad they are for the local economy and shuts out small business and how they treat workers and customers alike ... well stop shopping at walmart they wont give two shits about anything as long as they are making $

i believe i never started **** fuck this game or its terrible i simply stated i would much rather have a longer que then be forced to play support as im sure my ranked solo que team mates would agree as i rarely have a game as support that is not terrible.

that wasnt a comment to you. that was a comment to the person i replied to

the comment i posted to you ... you have yet to address

Eh, I think you are looking at it the wrong way. Instead of comparing it to the Walmart complainers it's more like sports fans. They are invested in a team, they like the team. The individual players might be hit or miss and they might even throw fits and blame the players or coaches but they are still a fan of the team.

The same is true for League. Players become invested in a game they like playing, however change can feel negative to them. They might not like the new direction the game is taking and they want to preserve and "fix" the perceived negatives because they are attached to the IP. That doesn't make them right or wrong, but it does help put their frustrated complaints into perspective at least.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

well that is part of the issue is people are so emotionally invested over this...

they let that shade their pov on issues.

i come from a place of neutral ... if there is something i dont like or etc i learn to deal and adapt i dont make the shit post crucifying the game or riot.

as in topic at hand over autofill if i get the role i dont want like mid i take and no one wants to swap... i take it as an opportunity to learn and improve as a player , i learn more about match ups, champs etc cuz i dont normally play or lane vs those champs in those situations, roaming and lane management in mid is different then top, or jungle etc. how you pick and play a champ in a role is different then in others and so on... there is countless upon countless little pieces of the game that other then a small handful of players ( less then 1% , challenger/masters/pros ) that we arent still learning and improving and in a game that is every changing you constantly have to change and adapt.

Jesuszilla1 votes

There is a fine line to walk between just shitposting and actually having an issue with something that is clearly off. For instance the moment I saw Cho'Gath post E buff I realized there was something seriously wrong with that change and the champion was way too powerful in that form (and still appears to be so). I didn't crucify Riot, but I certainly pointed it out.

I think some people need to reword their complaints and give constructive feedback.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

as far as cho is concerned is E isnt an issue. its his bonus hp scaling as true damage on his ult which has infinite scaling with feast

Jesuszilla1 votes

Actually, while I agree that Feast is absurd, his biggest issue is the e. It allows his early game to be MUCH stronger, gives him insane jungle clearing speeds, and in the mid-late game the slow and bonus range allows him to reliably hit the abilities that are usually more difficult for that champion.

The E is what allows him to become the late game monstrosity he is. Oh, and Stoneplate needs to be hotfixed.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

his E is only for the next 3 basic attacks then it goes on a cooldown...

this was meant to slow his clear speed

they gave him % hp damage on his E to deal with tanks

Jesuszilla1 votes

Trust me, it didn't slow anything. The % health damage does a LOT more than the old e did and allows you to forgo the attack speed entirely for runes. Additionally the cooldown at max ranks becomes 4 seconds so it scales into a monstrosity in the later game.

There is a reason they just nerfed the damage of the e.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

i never claimed it did slow anything i said it was meant to

thats all

im fine if they just take the bonus hp scaling from his damage on ult... i dont care about the stacks and stacking forever i dont care about the flat true damage , i would even be ok if they buff the flat true damage to make up for the scaling bonus hp on it

Jesuszilla1 votes

Then if you think it was meant to, and you think it didn't, why mention it at all?

I'm fine with the bonus health scaling on his ultimate, I am not fine with stoneplate/righteous glory being the rush build so you can one shot adcs.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

but if he dont have the bonus hp turning into true damage on hit ult then those items dont become an issue

they empower his ult's damage by giving him more bonus HP 10% of his bonus hp ( outside of his base hp ) turns into true damage on his ult... so he legit gets more true damage for building more HP

Jesuszilla1 votes

Right, but what I am saying is that inherently the HP scaling on his ultimate isn't a problem. He still had a low pickrate and winrate even with those interactions. But now that his e has made his kit more well-rounded he is a powerhouse.

The issue with Stoneplate is that it doubles his health but that the true-damage bypasses the natural reduction in damage dealt on Stoneplate. Stoneplate has a damage reduction effect on it for a reason and it needs to be hotfixed to reduce Cho'Gath's ultimate.

The Righteous Glory isn't about the health, it's about the movespeed it gives him, allowing him to close the short gap he needs to hit his e on the carry, once that happens and the carry is slowed he can just walk up and one shot them.

The issue with Cho'Gath isn't how his ultimate scales, it's specifically the stoneplate interaction by itself and the change to his e making it more effective for him to catch his targets. This is clear by the fact that before the e rework but after the health scaling his pick, win, and ban rates were low and he wasn't even really thought about. Post e rework he has become the most banned champion in high level play. The only bracket they don't really ban him is in bronze.

I wish it was the old system where the highest mmr pick first and lowest mmr pick last.

Jesuszilla1 votes

I don't think that has any actual impact on anything. That's a change without a problem.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

It would be nice if it would keep the number of autofilled players consistent per team(or try to keep them in the same roles).

Having two autofilled bottom laners against a duo who mains the role typically turns the game into a one-sided stomp.

Jesuszilla1 votes

The system does attempt to keep things in line, it's not 100% perfect all the time, but if you read the article I posted you'd get a lot of insight into the current system.

did you play prior to season 6?

Autofill has ALWAYS existed and Support is the easiest role. Just because "Last pick" has been changed to "Autofill" doesn't give you or anyone else a reason to bitch about it.

so my question remains, why is it here, why cant we just wait in a longer que to get our desired roles?

DrCyanide2 votes

A combination of "high elo problems" and the history of Fill.

With the old pick order system, you could main Mid and secondary Support and be fine. When Riot rolled out the new system, putting secondary Support meant you became a Support Main, and would get Support 73% of the time. Thus fewer people put Support, thus queue times got longer and your chance of getting Support if you put it went up, so those people bailed, etc. The number of people willing to play Support took a sharp nosedive because they were getting it all the time.

Auto Fill and other improvements provided a way for that to recover, increasing the support pool again (Riot says queuing Mid/Support now you get Support 35% of the time), but the player base is still reluctant to queue up like that, and it'll take a while before they get comfortable with that again. In the meantime, Auto Fill is one of the few ways to make sure people stay somewhat familiar with roles.

DarkRitual1 votes

How much longer? 5 minutes? 10? 30?

Do you feel that other people who would rather not wait should be forced to?

Baron Barian1 votes

Auto fill is meant to be used for people who are prepared to take any role and play them competently. I myself have never taken it because I want to get better as an ADC first. If there's a role that you absolutely can't play, don't take a gamble that you can't possibly win.

My suggestion is just take the time and effort to learn the role. Soraka would be a good one to start. Squishy, but she's meant to hide in the back, and the healing is a universally helpful trait, even if she's not the best choice for the team. Also cheap to buy.

Or Braum. Everyone loves Braum.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

no that is the FILL option you chose before entering a QUEUE for a game

autofill happens when you chose two roles you want ( adc/ mid ) and you get jungle and you dont know how to play jungle

KawaiiShroom1 votes

IF you feed as support you probably feed in other roles. Supports either play behind your allies to shield and buff, or is a play maker. If you are new to the champion you are unlikely to make plays.

hi ìm groot1 votes

If you only play support once in a blue moon when you are autofilled, do NOT pick playmaker supports, which is what it looks like you've been doing and is probably the source of your frustration. There are plenty of easy to pickup and have an impact supports that you can play, but champions like thresh and blitz are for those who have a deeper knowledge of the role. Best case scenario for an adc with a bad thresh is they're basically in a 1v2 lane. Worst case scenario is they're in a lane with someone who's going to constantly initiate fights they have no mechanics to win and get them both killed repeatedly.

Janna is 56% win rate atm and all u ever need to know/worry about is shielding adc and peeling to be effective on her. And as any role you should understand how to ward around objectives, the support will merely have more wards.
