Why Do We Lose LP With an AFK?

When a player quits 10 minutes into a ranked game, why does the team still lose the full amount of LP?

Reasoning: It is unreasonable to punish the remaining teammates for an event that is out of their hands. The original intention to q up for a fun game is now squashed. So, what is the point in playing a 4v5 if League is now a "team game?"

Proposal: If a player afks during a ranked match, the remaining teammates (excluding their duo partner) only lose half the LP. For Example: Normal Game Loss: -19LP AFK Loss: -9LP Now, I know many of you might have concerns about this, so let me go ahead and address those. -This perk is only given to players not in the afkers party. -This does not impact the game length in any way, it is merely an after game effect.

Q1) BUT BUT!!! What if YOU are the reason they rage quit? A) Every player has the ability to mute their teammates. If they refuse to mute them, then I propose the system should forcefully do it for them. It is not my responsibility to mother you.

Q2) BUT BUT!!! What if a player quits to save their duo some LP because they know they will lose the game anyway? A) This perk is only given to players not in the afkers party.

Q3) BUT BUT!!! Afkers aren't a problem in League. A) Clearly you have not played ranked games recently.

Q4) BUT BUT!!! Riot is not concerned about players afking. A) Very true, but Riot IS concerned about fixing their toxic community, and this can help in a very small way. This is of course assuming Riot cares about anything. They say they do, but it is usually a publicity stunt to calm down the community.

Question: So I ask again, why does the team with the afker lose the full amount of LP? Proposal: If a player afks during a ranked match, the remaining teammates (excluding their duo partner) only lose half the LP.

The reason why players get upset while playing League is because majority of the issues in game, are out of their control. So, stop punishing us for something that is unreasonable.

I sympathize but unfortunately, the software is not smart enough to detect that a player has lost their connection versus a player quitting the game due to frustration/annoyance/etc. The only advantage that exists is the remake option - but even then, you get the nitwits who choose to either ignore it or think that they can carry a whole team minus one player from the 5 minute mark and vote "no".

To prevent people from just designating a teammate to intentionally "afk". They would do this so the rest of them lose nothing if they do end up losing the game, because there was an "AFK".

Same reason you lose LP if your teammates feed.

you gain and lose lp based on wins and losses

the afk effects every one the same not just you... so if every one loses lp for the loss then it is balanced across all of rank

I have a little problem with AFK, so last time I wanted to play and I got into the lobby then suddlenly all of my "team" left the lobby even the other team, and i got into AFK... now i have to wait 5 min for everything :(

I am 100% for this. If you have a teamate that AFKs, the rest of the team should not be punished. If we have a teamate that afks, the other team members who stay in the game should take a 0 lp. The chance of winning a 4v5 is extremely difficult. I think that if the team does end up winning 4 v 5 those members should be given bonus lp for sticking with it and fighting out the game. But they should take 0 lp for losing it. since it is out of their control. Riot is literally punishing the members who stay in the game for something that is out of their control. This is extremely unfair.

Because you gain full LP when you face an AFK. (And assuming you personally never AFK, you're likely to gain more from such games than you lose in the long run, since theres 5 potential afks on enemy teams versus 4 on yours.)
