when I bought Kayn after spending many hours grinding lol i don't know if I should keep him or refund for a top/jungle flex like maokai. Im average at Kayn but i feel my play-style is too safe to play him correctly any advice would be great.

Don't ever refund champions unless you got them with RP. Basically, don't ever use refunds on anything other than RP.
You'll eventually have all champions, why refund anyone?

He's pretty much permabanned anyways.
Think of it this way. You might want to play him again later so if that happens you'll pretty much be paying double the IP and losing a refund that you can never get back.
Don't refund him, wait for riot to accidentally buff him
I would focus on the champions you enjoy playing the most rather than what feels "strong" or better. Because in the end, if you devote your time and effort to learning a champion you enjoy playing even when losing, you are likely to get much better faster.
