I'm no great shakes at Riven but I just experienced hell itself trying to puzzle around a Nocturne top lane. He took teleport ignite and if I burned any movement ability towards him I would need flash to survive his fear and q chase. Is this new or have I just been blissfully unaware of this abomination my entire time toplane?
What are you supposed to do in this sort of a matchup?

If you are afraid of fighting him, just farm. It's not like Nocturne can do anything to Riven.
Both completely shut him down.
Don't ignore proper itemization just because its not your core build. Sometimes you need to deviate from a static buildpath to win.
Nocturne currently is an early game powerhouse that relies on snowballing. Im not a riven player but there are some general things
Dont fight him in your minions, his passive heals him for every enemy hit.
Bait out his Q or E before fighting. You wouldnt engage on a jax who has his E avaliable would you?
When he hits 6, keep pressure top so he cant roam freely.
He has no escape other than Q, which he wants to use aggressively. If he wastes it he has no way out, especially with tp/ignite
From what I know of Nocturne, you'd want to wait for him to use passive on minions. And any ignite top must be outscaled.
love how people are starting to realize that nocturne is actually a powerful duelist now. since he has sustain that heals based off of how many targets hit you dont wanna take long trades with him because of his fear and he'll likely have lethal tempo. and in large minion waves thats where he'll sustain alot and he has no mobility besides a speedbuff so ganks on him when hes extended might be a free kill if you play it right. nocturne has very high mana costs and he needs to have extended fights to make use of his abilites or he's just wasting mana however he might just go corrupting. you can buy a ninja tabi and there goes his damage since he needs q and auto attack to deal damage(and his r) . he has no poke unless he's using his q which he shouldnt since it can make him lose mana fast. theres alot of champs that outscale him and nocturne has pretty high cds so as soon as you get away from his abilites you can punish him. he's also very vunerable to ranged top laners. if he's going a lethality build he's gonna get outscaled but if hes going a bruiser build he can fight many top laners later on.
