What are the criteria for good grades ?

So this is the criteria I heard about, which would be affecting your grade depending on which lane you are play in:

-- TOP: The damage taken and dealt + farm

-- MID: Damage + farm

-- JUNGLE: KDA + farm + Objectives

-- ADC: Farm + Damage dealt + kills

-- SUPP: Damage taken + Assist

Are these criteria's enough to get an S- and higher? Or are they totally/partially wrong?

And what are the criterias for each role ?

It's a secret.

NO ONE KNOWS what the formula is for an S, so that people won't abuse the system.

Unless someone that works for RIOT told you the formula, it's false.

It's all about voerall performance. They compare your kills/assists, deaths, cs, wards placed, objectives taken, etc, to that of other players using your current champ in your current role. (A support Karma would be rated differently as a mid Karma for exemple)

The only thing i know 100% is that kills and assists have the same ''weight'' on your grade, so no need to cry when people ''ks'' you.

Its literally 90% farm for jungle, I can tell you that.

what about objectives, warding and ganking? those these 3 only counts as 10 % of your work?

They help but the big thing is your farm I've always noticed. high farm on a jungler is a guaranteed S-

According to most people, just go in to a normal game and afk farm. Don't try to help your team, just farm. Apparently farm is the most important thing when it comes to grading. For supports idk.

But if you're only farming or playing against a very aggressive opponent, you're putting at risk your victory, don't you think?

Yes you are. That's why you go into a normal game and not a ranked one.

I suspect it's actually everything you mentioned (and more) for everyone, and it's just because you're only compared to others in the same role on the same champ that some stuff seems unimportant.

So for example most conventional supports will have a relatively low damage dealt stat and low cs. It's not that damage dealt and cs isn't taken into account at all, it's just that everyone else is also getting those low numbers, so your 3k damage dealt and 30 cs in a 30 minute game isn't awful, it's average. If one of those same supports did 0 damage and 0 cs (all other things being equal) they might get a lower grade since suddenly they are well below average. At the same time, a good adc is going to have high damage dealt and cs on average, so getting 150 cs in 30 minutes is actually bad compared to what many players can accomplish.

The issue I think a lot of people have is they tend to tunnel to hard on specific things (commonly kda/cs) and then neglect everything else. Someone can afk farm a side lane and run away from every teamfight, and have a pretty impressive kda/cs score at the end, but if they hardly touched objectives and had a tiny overall kill participation and barely warded and so on, then they might 'only' get an A or something, then come to the boards and complain the grading is broken since they went 5/0/12 with 300 cs at 40 min.

I have a friend who really enjoys playing support and when we play and win you can almost be sure that he got an S. So with another friend we decided to play different champs as support in draft games. After a couple of games, we came to a conclusion that whatever the champ you play as a support you will have at least an 'A' in almost every game. You can even ks your ADC during laning phase. Of course, I simplifying the story but the observation we made were are that to get higher chance of getting good grades you just go in a draft game, say you want to play support and the end taking the champ of your choice.

I find a lot of players are simply quite bad at supporting, so the averages for everything there are pretty low. (Also KSing has no impact whatsoever, as riot has confirmed that for supports they look at (kills+assists) rather than separately, so there should be no grade incentive to KS.)

If you ward regularly and don't die much (if at all) as a support, then that tends to put you above average in a lot of cases, since theres an awful lot of people skipping sightstone and basically never warding as support, as well as thinking they're carries and trying to 1v1 and inevitably dieing since they have relatively little gold, dragging down support averages.

And of course since you're compared to others in the same role/champ combo, weird stuff isn't going to have many performances to compare against. Some sort of janky support lucian thing is probably not going to go that well in absolute terms due to the lack of cc or really anything 'support-y', but every support lucian faces those problems so it may be that an 0/5/7 kda is still ok if you still ward and stuff. (Or it might be that the only people who do support lucian are crazy lucian one tricks and the averages are actually unreasonably high.)

Still, whatever your role/champ, just try do it better than others, since they're looking at your percentile performance (compared to all players in your region on the same role and champion, regardless of elo), not your absolute one, so it's not that you need at least X cs or Y wards placed or whatever to get a certain grade, it's just you have to be in the top 2% to get an S+, and that cutoff is going to vary from day to day as more and more performances come in.

I doubt that CS is taken into account for supports. Mostly because I use to play Tahm Kench with item 3301 instead of item 3302 if it seems to be a hard match up. That means that I naturally have less CS than other Tahm Kench players. Still manage to rake in S grades relatively often.

Well there are a lot of factors, and relic shield line procs aren't going to actually add up to a whole lot of cs in the grand scheme of things. All varieties of supports are probably going to get some cs from last hitting when the adc isn't around or as collateral damage when harassing/during teamfights, so the difference of a couple dozen cs probably won't make or break someones grade.

Besides, coin gives you that extra bit of early cdr and extra mana regen, so what you lose out in cs score you might make up in through damage dealt from extra q spam you might be able to do compared to relic shield players. The differences in other criteria are probably more substantial in terms of differences from the average as well, so if you're a kench player always making stuff happen and maintaining 80%+ kill participation and tanking tons of damage without dieing, that might put you above the majority of kench players in those areas, so being very slightly below average in cs won't matter if you're well above average in other areas.
