Promotion Series Queue Dodge Penalty

I just learned a valuable lesson today that promotion series for ranked has different and unfair aspects than regular ranked games do. I queued for my second promotional game and I got a couple trolls in it that wanted to throw the game while still in champ select, so I decided it would be wiser to take the LP loss and wait for the next queue. Instead, after I dodged, not only did I lose my LP, but it counted as a loss in my promotional game. I don't understand why this should be counted as a loss. You would think that getting your LP taken away as well as a queue timer penalty would be enough on its own... Any thoughts on the rules for this?

well, the person who dodges is responsible for the lobby disbanding. and will be addressed properly. it sucks that you had a bunch of trolls, but you cant just dip a lobby (especially ranked promotionals) and expect them to be in the wrong, because there is no record of it. the only record is you leaving

It's to prevent abuse.

If the dodge didn't count for anything, people could pull ARAM stratagies where they keep dodging until a Ziggs+Lux+Alistar+Xerath+Jhin team was had. Ranked should be about how well you perform vs. equally skilled opponents, not how well you can scout unfavorable fights and load the dice.

Also, with dodging ranked specifically after watching things conspire on the chat: you're wasting a ton of time for everyone involved.

The picks/bans phase can take up to 8 minutes total, and waiting for the queue to pop takes even more time. If you figure 5 minutes for queue+picks/bans, you just completely wasted 45 minutes of time for 9 other players.

The frequency of dodging also does horrible things to matchmaking if it's used regularly. If you only feel like dodging 1/10 games: but all 9 other people in each game you're matched with also feel like dodging 1/10 games, then it's possible for nobody to ever get put in a game. Or if all 10 players involved dodge at a random rate, 90%^10 works out to a ~35% chance a game will make it through picks/bans. Which is still unacceptable. If all 10 people queuing up for a match only have a 1/100 chance of dodging, there's still 1/10 games that won't make it past picks/bans.

There's a lot of negatives involved with dodging a ranked game.

Thanks for the replies. I see your points as to how it can be abused, but that abuse is prevented because the more you dodge, the larger the LP and time penalty is. The abuse is already covered without the promo loss penalty. It's a little disappointing how I can't avoid toxic people from ruining my chances at going to the next division because it makes them feel better to ruin someone else's day, so I still disagree to this being fair.
