Laner PSA: How to make your jungler love you

RainblowCupcakes··7 votes·1,272 views

Gold Jungle Main here with important, top secret information to all you wonderful laners out there who just seem to clash with their junglers. Too often laners don't understand proper etiquette when interacting with their jungler, thus causing unfavorable scenarios. Here are some tips to get along with your jungler and (hopefully) win more games!

  1. Say thanks! Your Jungler makes a succesful gank, donates a buff to you, secures dragon from the enemy team, etc. Say thanks! It's a huge morale boost and encourages your jungler to gank/donate buffs/make good plays more often!
  2. Stay optimistic! If your jungler makes a bad call and dies in a gank or dies to a monster, don't chastise him/her for it. Being insulted for one's decisions does not feel good. By all means you should make recommendations and comments to your jungler on how they can avoid those bad decisions in the future, but try to be more gentle than "jesus christ what's wrong with you?" or "you're an idiot". Instead, try being positive with something like "Make sure you're not spotted by a ward next time".
  3. DO NOT take camps without permission! This upsets many junglers more than anything. The jungle monsters are our only source of gold and experience outside of ganks (which sometimes don't result in gain to the jungler), and we need those camps! Not to mention that we gain more money and experience from them than laners, we also rely on the smite buffs for vision, clear speeds, and health. It comes across as a big middle finger to junglers when the laner, who has regularly spawning minions for money/experience, steals the money and experience straight from the jungler. This also applies to buffs. The jungle belongs to the jungler, and they decide when they want to donate buffs to their laners. (Sure, it might seem stupid for Rengar to take the second blue instead of giving it to Orianna, but he might need it to reach level 6 and give Orianna a good gank!)

Hopefully you all learned a little bit from this, my goal is to spread optimism and lower the salinity of the League of Legends community.

I came into this thread expecting great advice on how to set up your lane to make it easier to gank. Instead I was told to treat my jungler like he's a special snowflake.

The issue is that none of those principles apply in reverse. We don't get thanked when you kill off our enemy laners that we got to half health. We don't get treated nicely if we aren't doing well in our lanes. We don't get asked if you can tax our minions and push out our lane.

You can claim that you actually do those things, but the majority of junglers don't.

Glad you brought this up. I admit that I don't applaud all of my laners good decisions, but I generally try to give some type of positive reinforcement. When I see "An enemy has been slain", I typically type in a quick "gj". It would be nice if all junglers did something along those lines, just like it would be nice if all laners would do what I explained in the post. I'm thinking of expanding on this and making a thread of how to make your laner love you as a jungler.

As someone who jungles and plays support a lot, you and we are completely spoiled and expect way more than any other lane in this game.

Only jungler and support players expect that kind of treatment for just outright doing my job. No mid laner cries because they didn't get a virtual high five when they got a kill.

We're entitled pieces of shit, accept it.

I believe there is a difference between wanting a possitive atmosphere, and being a spoiled little brat. But that's beside the point. The point of this is just to spread optimism and reduce clashing between laners and junglers. I totally get what you're saying, but I feel like you're interpreting my post a bit beyond what the original intentions are.

Establishing a middle ground or "positivity" doesn't start with the title "Here's what you can do to make me happy"

Quite frankly, every player on the team should be trying to make every other player happy. (This is coming from a support main, though, so...)

When people are in a good mood, they're more likely to cooperate. In League as in life, this is a truly massive advantage. Morale can be the deciding factor of many a match.

You completely disregarded what I said. He's saying that he's trying to create a positive atmosphere. You don't do that with statements like:

Too often laners don't understand proper etiquette when interacting with their jungler

The jungle belongs to the jungler, and they decide when they want to donate buffs to their laners.

The whole post reads like a passive-aggressive rant. "Oh gee, it looks like there's a problem. Damn, maybe you should appease me and the problem will go away?"

I suppose it was written such that it sounds somewhat selfish, but I think that's more a matter of bad writing than anything else.

Few more to add.

[4] Announce the position and timing of wards that you have seen or can predict were dropped. This allows the jungler to plan their route and lets them know where or when they may come to gank without risking being seen.

[5] Announce when the enemy uses their defensive summoner spells (Flash, Ghost, Heal, Barrier, Cleanse, Exhaust) or their ultimates so the jungle can decide whether they want to gank your lane or not.

[6] If you do not want the jungler to gank for your lane (not a good time, you know they've been seen, you don't trust them), please let them know before they arrive at your lane so they can avoid wasting time. If you do allow them to gank and don't want to keep chasing (enemy lost health, burned CDs, etc. and you think diving is too dangerous), ping the jungler back so they don't continue chasing expecting your aid.

[7] If you want the jungler to help you push the wave, blue ping the enemy tower, If you don't want the jungler to help push, yellow ping the minion wave.

For junglers: [1] Ping to let your ally know when you are approaching their lane to gank and when you initiate the gank.

[2] If the laner pings you away, please don't force a gank. Whether or not it's a good opportunity, they might not think so and refuse to follow up, which may expose your to danger.

[3] If the laner does not want your help to push the wave, it might help to avoid taking CS. Sometimes the laner may need a little extra gold to finish an early item (Hexdrinker, Sheen, Giant's Belt, Brutalizer) which offers them a significant power boost and it may be too dangerous for them to push an extra wave to get it. You can still stay for experience in most cases though, and help clear the wave by lowering the minions' health.

When a top laner never asks for a gank and blames me for them losing lane it becomes so annoying. I prioritize doing my camps, then camping mid and bot. I do know top lane exists, but I will only gank when I get a chance to (aka after getting red or when it is pushed to our tower).

actually laners doing their jobs is enough to make me happy being positive is not limited to keeping the jungler happy, but fuqing everyone which you should be doing anyway for the most part tho, anything you say positive or negative, i tend to brush off anyway and speedily make my way back to the jungle.. time is money
