I have been hearing rumors about losing my current shards by the end of this season. Can someone shed some light on that matter please?

Where did you hear this? I just hope I don't lose my level 6 Veigar token before I can get the essence!!!

That is probably about leftover PROJECT materials and Championship tokens expiring on November 6.

You will keep all champion and skin shards. As well as any unopened chests and keys/key fragments. At the start of season 7 it all resets and you can get chests on EVERY champion you own again.

Championship tokens expire on November 6th, but everything else will remain in your inventory.

No. you will keep mastery shards. Upgrade it at your leisure
