The issue with low elo support players

Hello, Before I start my rant, I have been playing league for about a year and a half. I really enjoy the game, my favorite positon to play has always been bottom lane/ADC. During my time playing the game, in solo que i've noticed that it is really hard to find someone who fully undertands what champions are actualy viable as a support. I feel like I need to adress that my acount's current rank is Bronze II 48 LP 70-ish wins, and my mmr is somewhere in high bronze to low silver. I also feel the need to say that I do not deserve to be in challenger or anywhere higher than my current rank, although I may be very salty at the time writing this I do belive that the points im trying to get across have some merit. The first thing that is most apparent in my games in particular is the rate at which my team's support player picks a mid lane mage, such as, Neeko, Ahri, Veigar, Lux (I will talk more indepth about her later). I have no issues with flex picks or "off meta" picks, but I cannot stand behind being paired with a Lux support running dark harvest building magic penetration and AP (yes, this has happened). The issue with those styles of picks can being detrimental to a team's success when they have no form of utility such as healing and shielding, back bone in a teamfight as opposed to more magic damage. In reality when a support goes down the route of picking a mid lane mage buying a spelltheif's then building only magic pen, they aren't really a support, they are just a carry with a support item. I try my hardest not to dodge or ban out a teamate's champ in draft, but sometimes I feel the need to dodge or ban out my support's pick when they want to play Lux or Neeko, because i feel like i already know how they are going to play the game. They are going to run runes like electrocute, dark harvest, or arcane commet, then buy a spelltheif's at the start of the game and not finish it/ sell it later and then build magic damage. I fell like i behave this way in draft because I have been conditioned to think that all mage supports are bad supports, and I feel like that mentality resinates a lot with other ADC players. I also know that not evry mage support is a bad support because champions like Janna, Nami, Sona, Yuumi can work really well with some teams and can serve as a really good back line healer, or offer a lot of utility such as slows, stuns, engages/disengages roots etc. Earlier I referenced Lux as mid lane mage, I do belive she can be effective as a support, but i do not think her primary role should bas as a support. I feel that way because when i play with Lux on my team I feel like they do not play her as a support, regardless if she is played in the support role. Another reason why i do not feel like she should not primarily be a support is because the game doesnt recogise her as a support. Her kit doesn't offer the same utility as other mage supports 3/4 of her abilities are designed to do damage and her one ability that doesnt do damage is upgraded last. It also doesn't help her case when Lux player build damage items like deathcap, luden's and morellonomicon over items like redemption ardent censer, and Athene's, or better yet a fully upgraded spelltheif's. my question is now, do you think i am wrong? If so, comment telling me why.

Since your bronze ofc your supports will suck but so do you (no offence) since you share that rank. As main support i think you should focus on your own gameplay more then on what support is doing wich is what will make you leave thoose guys behind you and get better and better supports.

I guess what I am trying to say is I feel like a full magic damage Lux support can weigh the team down for the style of play. I think its most comparable to a strategy in counter strike where someone will save up their income regardless of winning or losing a round to buy an awp not paying attention to the rest of the teams economy.

You aren't in the wrong tbh. Your in bronze so players in it do not know what they're doing sometimes. Mind you I'm not any better and would be one of those players if I did not like Yuumi's playstyle a whole lot. But I do feel that they just don't know. With that said it does help if you have a meaningful chat with them about how supports work if possible. And how they go support with said champion

A meaningful chat?? 😂 Yeah ok.

yea dont have any meaningful chats unless you want ghost/cleanse nunu support [sg-miss-fortune]

Lux with item 3174 is actually useful to her adc but most idiots will rushitem 3285 .

the other issue is, regardless of the out come of the match, they don't learn to improve being their support playstyle

The ones who play her as a support because they intend to work with adc and teammates will improve.

The folks who are just going thru the motions and don't give a shit will continue to be deadweight.

The weaker your Pool the weaker you are as a player imo. Not a popular opinion but if in lobby its a lost game because of 1 ban killed your viability in the MMR then your garbage, if you wont dodge knowing your gonna fk the game.

ppl will play things like that as support for a few reasons one of which is that lets say with ezreal ur lane is fairly passive but with a lux pelting the adc constantly with his superior range and mobility it can be quite oppressive. have you ever laned against xerath and caitlyn? it can be incredibly frustrating ESPECIALLY if your own lane partner never engages on them or is not in position to do so if the jungler does.

another reason is that in low elo alot of league personalities unfortunately advise people to pick a carry mage as the support, because your adc is going to be trash so you just have to carry them by owning your equally bad opponents. the problem with that is that in low elo the person playing the mage support trying to carry is bad as well XD so they get hooked by blitz/nautilus and just feed to the point the lane becomes unwinnable. its a really crappy situation and as an adc player i feel your pain, but at the end of the day league is all coinflip, if the guy is going to feed on one champion he will probably feed on all of them.

nah mate ranked is luck based why you even bother with it and btw why you judge people if they are bad they paid for champs or skins so why would you say shit about them leave people alone

While I do agree with you when you say ranked can feel almost like a lottery, but regardless of whether someone used in game currency to acquire champions/skins etc, it isn't an excuse for trolling 4 other people

At gold level many supports are still clueless about itemization. At it is not just the mage 'supports'. People actually rush silly things like item 3083 on Thresh as their first item after the income / sight stone item.

Such people would likely go up 1 to 3 minor divisions if they would just build the items that stat sites like lolalytics.com show are good at higher level of play. Cause the items built by in higher ELO games are the ones that are high value for the gold spent. Or maybe they do but are misunderstanding the numbers. item 3083 has a high win rate on Thresh , but it is hardly ever built. And when it is built it is later in the item build, and later items always have a high win rate as they appear more often on teams that got ahead earlier in the game.

There was once a case of someone on my friend list in Season 4 or 5 who was bronze 3 and would build an early item 3068 when they played tank supports. I advised them to stop doing so and build things like item 3190 (which still had the MR aura back then) and item 3110 . They got up to Silver 5 in like a week after they changed up their itemization.

Another note In season 10 it appears that riot in a way is attempting to fix troll supports by changing the amount of XP gained in the bot lane and jungle and they also seem to be tweaking the support items, and removing item 3301
