Muting: Positive or Reportable?

We all know that the League community can be pretty toxic. To be honest, I've gotten quite sick of it. It's one of the biggest things that, in my eyes, makes League not as enjoyable as it could be. Another problem I have is that the toxicity tends to be infectious. I wouldn't consider myself to be toxic; however, sometimes I do get into some debates with people who are just jerks. I don't swear or anything, but I want to stand up for myself.

One thing that some people do in normal mode is just mute everyone before the game even starts and communicate with pings. I've only done this with one game, but holy crap, did it ever feel so good. It's not much of a hindrance, and it prevents me from getting irritated by trolls, my morale from dropping, and any sort of debate from starting. I now see why so many people do it.

However, I also know that it's an offense to not communicate with your team. I understand that this is a team game, but when you can communicate through pings, what's the harm in not talking to people who may or may not be toxic and/or trolls in a non-ranked match? What do you guys think? Is it ok to mute everyone, or should I just not?

It's not reportable, you can communicate via pings.

That is true, but what if people are talking to you through text chat, and you don't respond? If they're saying, "Go there," and I don't, they could report me for not listening to them; thus not communicating, right?

Tell them that you're muting them and if they want to communicate do it via pings.

That's something I'll likely do. If I type it just as the game starts, even if I'm reported, the tribunal would see it. My only issue is that would the tribunal look at it and say, "That guy shouldn't be doing that"?

They can, yeah. The pings show up on chat though, and as long as you use them they don't have much of an argument.

They can, but you will NEVER get punished as a result. Rioters have literally said nobody has ever been banned for "not communicating" reports.

That's uplifting. Even still, I've never gotten any sort of punishment or anything before, so I'm guessing that even if I were punished it would only be a warning.

Yeah man. You know if you're behaving fine or not. Don't let all the people acting like their punishments are undeserved make you worried. Riot is pretty damn good at handling reports in general really.

Yeah there's nothing that says you have to communicate using words. Pings are there for a good reason. I try not to even say much in games when I'm playing solo because people can be so stupid when you make a small mistake (no one is perfect)
