Playing from behind comes down to playing safe, and keeping up with the enemy team in gold as much as you can.

If you can't fight the enemy team due to them being stronger than them, then you need to be making plays and applying pressure elsewhere on the map. For example if the enemy team moves to do dragon but you can't fight them, group and push top in order to apply pressure there to either get a tower (trading objectives and thus keeping up in gold) or force the enemy team to split off from dragon to try to stop you. The goal is to negate their advantage either by gaining an advantage of your own at the same time, or by forcing them to give up their attempts to increase their advantage in order to keep you from getting something.

Also when you're playing from behind, every mistake carries a lot more weight. So you need to be extra cautious about things that are maybe dangerous, because if they are maybe dangerous, then you should assume that they flat-out are dangerous. For example walking into the jungle with no vision while enemies are missing and you don't know where they were in the last 5-10 seconds. Even going out to ward is dangerous, if you don't know where the enemy is.

Positioning is even more important when you're behind. If you're a marksman then you absolutely can't afford to make mistakes anymore, so you need to stay behind your front-liners at all times and you need to keep your flanks warded if the enemy team has any assassins or divers.
