Take a hint Riot from Pokemon

Instead of introducing Keystone Masteries that break the game for some champions. I am pretty sure that CotC was NOT designed with Riven in mind as it gives her two shields essentially.

I agree that it is totally cool to have customization but I feel that runes and masteries are just NOT the way to be doing this. Instead of providing flat power to everything with no cost, why not introduce a system like "Pokemon" has where you can customize small increases of base stats to the detriment of others. (IV and EV Training)

This means that a Yasuo could choose to customise his base attack but at the EXPENSE of his defense. Giving a clear trade off that allows people to find the stats that work best for their individual playstyles while at the same time, providing a double edge sword that weakens a champion in another area.

The pure problem with the current system is that the mastery tree gives a metric ton of added damage and other abilities with no detrimental cost to balance them.

If you absolutely HAVE to have "keystones", then make them available at the end of a tree so that you pay a significant price for actually getting this keystone.

Allowing people to customize small increases to their base stats directly while allowing them to have negative returns as a trade off for the additional stat bonuses would be a far more effective solution in my opinion. I won't pretend to be a "Stat master" but i think the lack of trade off is whats causing the game to become stale.

Kinda sounds like what HOTS did there is no items you can change how skills and such work which to me is better then the item mess we have here and in dota2. Hell even smite noticed their item issue and got rid of tons of them in order to re balance the game.

I agree. Masteries should give stats not spells

I agree, and then balance them a second time by nerfing them if they're too strong with a stat combination.

Too complicated. I'd end up with ad melee tank karthus somehow and wonder wtf is going on.

Well you could but only if you were completely stupid and wanted to do that. Something that doesn't benefit Karthus. You wouldn't go into the tank tree and take CoC for Karthus now anyway.

Effort Values (EV) and Inherent Values (IV) from Pokemon are flat stat boosts, yo. The only detriment they have is that you only have so many EVs to spread around, since IVs all cap at 31. Your analogy doesn't work because the opportunity cost of investing, say, speed and attack onto a physical sweeper is all the bulk you can't invest, but the same is also true of League. If you get loads of offensive runes and masteries then you show up without bulk and the opposite is generally true.

Also, nothing should ever be balanced like pokemon, because Gamefreak is terrible at game balance.

The thing of iv ev's Is that for runes wise it's way lower and I think what is in current use is set in stone and is good. the Masteries however Have % damage/ abilities that totally alter a game thunderlord procs u die deathfire touch storm raider's surge letting u get away etc. Though it adds some uniqueness to fighting champions it means your getting an edge on them, and its just a reason to nerf a champion or allow a champions kit to exist like tryndamere just cause storm deny's the slow etc. I don't think we need masteries in general tbh. It's the % damage buffs that have made the marksman race into a caster race .

"Two Shields" laughed and stopped reading. You know it is getting nerfed out the ass. AND it has a CD. Also IF you decide to blow CD's on a shielded opponent you are retarded.
