@Riot Thank you for giving Ryze another chance.
As a Ryze main this recent news has really excited me. For the past year I've always felt like Ryze in his current kit and theme was trying too hard to be a shadow of his former self. It felt rushed and too dependent on keeping old Ryze players happy and we ended up with a kit that made trying to balance him more of a nightmare and causing win ratios going from God tier to Low tier rapidly throughout patches and Season updates.
This current state Ryze is in is not fun for me at all, I feel like he is being weighed down too much to ever feel like all the hard work put into timing the stacks, cool downs, what buttons to press and carefully aim Q and positioning is just too much for 1 champion to handle and this 5 spell cap nerf makes that even more of an issue. He's not fun to play for me and honestly I've stopped playing the game as a whole a fair amount due to this. I thought Ryze was going to get help a long the way since the 6.4 notes but as time went on and seeing no updates for 6.6 PBE made me think that Riot had decided to leave Ryze as he is and work on him next Season.
Now with this news about him getting a full rework in a few months has really made me happy because whether or not the new Ryze will be good or bad I am really happy that Riot are admitting the mistake of this current Ryze and are hitting the reset button. It is also super awesome how Ryze is finally getting his Visual Update along with a whole new model and splash arts. I hope the reworking goes well and you feel like the end result is a Ryze that can be viable and tweaked & tuned along the way in each new Season he will need to Ryze towards. I cannot wait to finally see him hit the PBE in months to come and thank you for not abandoning my favourite peanut headed smurf
