Just a question.. The last few ranked games I've played I have been playing against gold v and iv. Note im S4. They said its cause of MMR but that makes zero sense because ranked games should only have people ranked in close divisions to you. So literally ranked means absolutely nothing and is just for show in these low elos? Not salty or anything just perplexed of why ranked isnt based solely on your rank. Peace and love.

Basically, yes. The skill level in lower elos varies greatly with how many people are there, and solely matching people based on rank alone would be a poor decision and lead to very uneven matchups.
It's probably because the Gold V and iV are in dynamic queue with the silvers.
Just because someone made it to gold 5 doesn't mean they deserve it. I climbed last season to it and lost a ton of games after to the point that my mmr was about silver 3 level because that was my skill level. Ranking does mean something to an extent but it's not so black and white, there are some differences in skill level so just trust that whoever you're playing against is roughly your skill level.
