how do you beat darius?

Muzah·6/6/2016, 9:23:28 PM·5 votes·1,941 views

Im a toplane main and all i play is olaf or irelia, and no matter WHAT i do he still wins lane, his passive and Q and ult, basically everything in his kit is too strong for me to deal with. So what should i do to beat darius?

(not a QQ thread, just want to know how to lane against him lol )

As Irelia if you're fighting him just dash into him when he tries to use Q the dash will put you inside him denying his outer edge heal + damage on the spin. Honestly as Olaf you have to kind of poke him a little then go an aggressive all in and keep moving to dodge his outer Q by standing on top of him while hes perma-slowed.

All of Darius's match ups relies on him getting good Q's or cheesing you at lvl 1 with a bush run-around & W start

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert.

Don't know much about Olaf, but here's what I would suggest as Irelia. First, you want to max E for the stun. Second, you don't want to engage unless you have a clear advantage (like a jungle gank, not just a few more HP than him). Farm, punish engages with your stun, and focus on sustaining and winning lategame.

If you're looking for straight-up counterpicks, go with someone who can either duel him evenly, out-sustain him, or poke/kite him. For the first one, you have other juggernauts - Garen, etc. For the second, you have champions with a lot of built-in sustain - think Cho'gath and Maokai. For the third option, you'll mostly be looking at ranged champions, but be aware that some players will be able to counter this strategy, depending on the champion you use.

Don't fight him for an extended amount of time. His bleed and, consequently, his passive, will stack up and he'll just get a power strike to either end the duel or heavily tip things in his favor. If he has ult, probably the former. Avoid his bladed Q so he can't heal up for a really extended engagement (as well as it also doing more damage). Grievous Wounds can help avoid that too, if you get it...esp since he usually gets SVisage.

As for champ picks, I've had luck on Shen or Trundle if I go top. If not, ask your jungler for help.

There's only one thing you need to know in order to handle Darius; you don't have to win lane in order to win the game.

Stall out the lane and keep him busy. He has incredible zoning potential, but if you don't feed him he won't snowball out of control. All you have to do is be more useful to your team than he is to his in the mid and late game. Early game all you do is farm as best you can and wait.

Defended6/6/2016, 10:11:21 PM2 votes

As someone who ONLY plays darius top.

You gank him. He pushes the lane naturally and has no means of escape.. Hes free bait

Also there are many champs that beat him Irelia for example Take ignite

Swiftstrike46/6/2016, 10:18:22 PM2 votes

The longer the fight goes the more likely Darius will win. You need to be conscientious of this as you engage him. It also means that once you are in you need to stay committed.

A good Darius is a tough match-up but i you play a high poke champion proficiently you should be OK in that match-up. Also, high burst champions that can chunk him and make him retreat.

You may want to try Chogath since the spikes will provide some extra damage you can disengage or engage with a silence and knock up and your ult does crazy true damage. You will also out sustain him in lane due to your passive.

Incognonymous6/6/2016, 10:37:29 PM2 votes

You either outrange him or you don't beat him. Riot intentionally created an antimelee that excels at literally every possible 1v1 melee scenario that involves a straight up fight. Even if you can disengage and reengage, he still has hook and heal, so he's going to eat your attacks and then beat you. It's absurd. And itemizing against him? Forget it.

Dodge queue

Remlap12236/7/2016, 1:31:37 AM1 votes

Time to learn some new champs. Literally any ranged top laner craps on him, but picking a melee champ like Jax or Shen, and you'll be golden.

Lestat S466/7/2016, 3:18:24 AM1 votes

You should be able to out trade him as long as you stay inside of his Axe swing. without that big heal and chunk of dmg you should be able to win the trade and get out before it comes back off CD

Friendly Ram6/7/2016, 3:20:14 AM1 votes

as olaf i usually just axe him to sit down and then kill him.

MunchCrunchLunch6/7/2016, 4:17:09 AM1 votes

play a ranged champion. like teemo kennen etc. or simply play a champion that has a gap closer so you can close in on him when He tries to Q you and punish him for not healing. but thats a skill matchup. I play darius. and in lane a 1v1. one of the hardest times I've had are against irelia. because of her stupid ealry game damage. also Jax if played really well can win.

also trundle. i can not beat trundle as darius to save my life. this is just my experience though.

BluePolarizer6/7/2016, 4:38:33 AM1 votes

If you first pick top and Darius is picked after, you can't do much.

He statchecks 90% of melee tops and the melee tops he doesn't statcheck, he outscales. its absolutely insane. Darius is likely one of the best top laners in the game right now, with the weakness of being bad against lane swaps - but so are 90% of melees.

Lady Hammerlock6/7/2016, 5:42:58 AM1 votes

Pick a champion that can hire him

Expect his Q when you try to last hit as a melee champion

If you commit, stick to him do not even think of moving back or your opening yourself for him to heal with Q

E is very easy to dodge

Stack health not armour, his armour pen makes any armour you buy practically pointless not to mention his ult is true dmg

Punching Top6/7/2016, 6:12:37 AM1 votes

It's simple... you don't.

Sunbae Irelia6/7/2016, 6:46:21 AM1 votes

Poke the shit out of him. And play ranged champions, that might help.

CerealBoxOfDoom6/7/2016, 6:46:44 AM1 votes

you don't do anything special as those champs to win

So I must ask, what are you normally doing exactly

TheOvermind6/7/2016, 11:46:32 AM1 votes

You beat darius the exact same way you beat nasus : don't touch them let them push and get the junhler to gank them when they are at ur turret. Rinse repeat until he is 0/5. If u wanna beat them by yourself you need to count on them to make mistakes. If they play perfectly though you can't do much.

DropFill6/7/2016, 4:00:53 PM1 votes

Irelia just shit stomps darius Lol. Her retarded burst plus sustain makes darius be unable to reach 5 stacks on you before he dies, and since you are on top of him, he gets no healing at all. You just need sheen first though, and after that is a stomp party except if you feed him way too hard or are very low on farm

l Helios l6/7/2016, 4:25:12 PM1 votes

As Olaf and Irelia, Darius hard counters both as both like to trade autos and Darius excels at winning trades if that's what you do.

Biggest thing for Olaf would be to take advantage of having better poke than him. Your Q out ranges his significantly, so you can poke without really being afraid of getting engaged on. You also sustain better than he does since his is based on landing Q while all you have to do is auto attack. Your E is also good damage on him in trades. Just lifesteal off minions if you get low and avoid his Q and you should be fine.

Irelia is hard because she can never really win a 1v1 with Darius until later in the game I'd think. Biggest tip would be to always have Q off CD and if he E's you, just Q away to a minion to avoid his Q. You are mobile as Irelia, so you can dodge his Q pretty easily. You never wanna fight him until after you at least have Tri force.

Darius is the kind of champion where you have to be patient against early because he just wins flat out fights early. Irelia and Olaf are both more useful in team fights and split pushing though.

Odd Gnome6/6/2016, 9:27:41 PM1 votes

Jayce

But if you do only play Irelia and Olaf you should duel him as much as possible. With Olaf keep throwing Q's at him, Irelia stun him by building Triforce first and just keep poking him.

Noblewind6/6/2016, 9:27:45 PM1 votes

Stack health, armor isnt great vs his bleed. You should be able to keep him from taking your tower. Keeping them in their lane, especially top, takes them out of the game. If they're fed they won't be able to take advantage of it

Beuhlakor6/6/2016, 9:28:17 PM1 votes

Renekton Kayle Fiora (skilled match up) Quinn Kennen Lissandra

Sirsir6/6/2016, 9:38:39 PM1 votes

You have to outrange him...

Beating him as Irelia is possible, you have to wait for him to use a skill (usually his W to get a last hit, but a bad darius would use his Q on a wave) and then go in. Depending on his build you might wanna go BoRK rush. Or if he gets a kill early go HP tank

facemelter7106/6/2016, 9:44:13 PM1 votes

Twitch or Quinn. Both womp on him

maxaroni1186/6/2016, 9:45:48 PM1 votes

I see some good shit down there so imma just say, when playing against darius just stay away from his q

you shouldnt go armor too much against him as he ignores that shit with his bleed

i would actually as olaf, poke him out of lane with ur axes. he has a bit of a cooldown on his q so know that u have at least 6-10 seconds from level 1 to level 5 and then go in.

I dont understand how u lose lane tho... olaf and irelia in my opinion would do gr8 against him...

huh... i think u are just tilted from the bleed and go too far in every duel with him. just call your jungler over

(also last tip... if u are in a fight and cant avoid his stupid q, move closer to him as it does less damage and heals for less too)

CR4ZYRONDH4VI6/6/2016, 9:59:33 PM1 votes

Could Kayle beat him?
