QOL Karthus plans?

Right now due to new itemization and based around other champs, Karthus is one of the worst choices, and even if he wasn't in the best shape the tank update just didnt help. There are so many direct and indirect counters to Karthus that he went from a champ that I loved to play to being glossed over because while he has an amazingly simple playstyle with a mid tier skill floor to a high tier ceiling with so many possibilities (my personal favorite being somewhat of a Mage/Juggernaut) he is just ruined by so many things in the game. Now, are some of these counters needed, absolutely, his ultimate being a three second delay middle finger it makes sense that there has to be some way around it from healing to shields to invulns, there will be times when you just die but on the other hand with 2 semi recent items additions and changes it really hurts the power of it, with those two being item 3107 (2.5 second delay compared to a 3 second channel) and item 3190 (instant AoE sheild) and that isn't even counting the champ abilities that grant damage invulnerability/mass heal/revival. Meanwhile you can't even fight tanks or bruisers anymore because item 3194 locks him out of all of his DPS, with his main niche being a semi tanky dps mage in the middle of fights Anyone at riot able to answer if there have been thoughts of looking at Karthus with anything from small scale numbers changes to full ability updates? As much as I have enjoyed the Death Pope since season 3 he just can't do his basic thing anymore, it isn't even him having numbers tuning that has done this, it is mainly new items. His only recent changes have been +.5 MR per level and the ability buffer fix in 7.8 and 9, other than that it was a change to Wall of Pain in season 5

You say Karthus is one of the worst choices yet statistically speaking he is actually a decent mid? There are more counters now for his toxic global ult but that apparently hasn't locked many players out of winning at slightly better than normal odds. Anything but the smallest of buffs or change will put him into a op state .

Perhaps you should just spam some matches on him with the current builds and see how things go? It is kind of a champion that is complete cancer when it is strong.

Karthus has always been a strong SoloQ champion. And every time there is some smart ass who goes but what about item 3155 item 3102 item 3001 item 3157 item 3107 item 3190 etc etc. You don't start off the game with those items, and you certainly as hell don't itemize against karthus ult early game.

"what about Soraka Orianna Lulu Karma Lux ?" well yeah if you're first picking karthus and you get counter picked or pick him into a team with karma's AoE shields then you're just stupid and you're the reason Karthus' winrate is only slightly above 50% and not even higher.

Karthus hits lvl 6, easiest cheese gank of your life. As long as your jungler starts a fight and someone bot lane goes under 210 or so health.. free kill. and for those saying "well just back off before that happens."

  1. you're not going to see the gank coming and know you're going to be in range of karthus ult ... it's why it's a fucking gank
  2. if you're constantly returning to base early in fear of the ult, well job done. you lose out in farm an exp anyway.

Karthus hits lvl 11 if you're against karthus playing ap, your morellos is complete and you are not complete a banshee or zhonyas, no one goes for those items 2 (unless they must) because you do no damage. You need echo if you're burst to delete karthus in a rotation and not extend the fight (which is what he wants) and again... Botlane is still free kills with a 400 damage ult.

But most importantly apart from snowballing other lanes while being able to constantly shove your own, neutralizing all pressure from the enemy mid, while applying pressure with the push of a button, your ult isn't even why you're scary. It's your defile damage. your E. That will shred teams to bits later on in the game and all those defensive items go on cooldown or get popped LONG before you actually use your ult in a normal teamfight.
