Talks about League of Legends ergonomics.

Hi Summoners,

Me & my friend are studying game design & programming in a video game school in Paris, and we had an little assignment about ergonomics. We choose to study LoL and find some "improvable" points. There's a set of pictures to illustrate a little in the end of the post. Tell us what you guys think :)

Spells: If the player leveled a spell by mistake, he can’t go back on its choice. A possible solution would be to be able to come back on this decision for a few seconds (canceled if player use a spell).

TAB screen: The TAB screen can be pretty confusing and is a bit messy, filled with a lot of informations without a clear organization. The player has to takes time to search and find the informations he needs, with no relation to his actual skill. A possible solution would be to give to the player a more flexible screen, with the option to organize this screen like the spectator mode (selection his main opponent and putting him side by side with himself).

UI: The UI is very strict and unchangeable. It can cause “dead angles” kind of situations. Like if a player is on the top side, the spell bar may hide a bit of the screen, and forces the player to move the camera in what might be an uncomfortable position. A possible solution would be to be able to move/customize the UI.

Pings: The number of pings is very limited and doesn’t permit a “fast” non verbal communication. A possible solution would be to have more pings.

Loading screen: The loading screen is the first time team can see their opponents, and in blind mode they can’t even talk about a strategy . A team chat box would be nice

Thanks for reading and for your feedbacks :)

Where's the loading screen option?!

How about gamma, contrast and saturation video settings? Simple option, yet so helpful!

Riotko please?

Loading screen chat is a must!

All of these seem like great additions!

One thing I wanted to add: In addition to the customizable UI, the left side bar that shows your allies, if you can change the order of your allies on your client side/screen so that you can organize say, ally 1, 2, 3, and 4, based on their role, so when you use your f keys, you can always switch to a specific ally instead of having to relearn which f key corresponds to which role every game.

I think the ability to flip the ui along the diagonal y=-x axis would be helpful. That way those of us that play bot lane wouldn't be hampered by the ui elements when playing on red side, or those of us who prefer to play on one side wouldn't have to deal with playing on the other, because for us we would still seem to start from the same side of the map.

I think the UI could use some improvement. So i definitely second that

the dead angles on purple side are quite annoying

Why no All option in the pool?

You might want to search for a post on the old forums that had data on mouse movement for blue vs purple side.

your spell idea goes against the concept of mastery of and in the game. I am against babying players.

TAB is not that bad. Top half is always blu and bottom side is always red. Top most is dragons.

Where would you move the UI to? The corners are the most out of the way you can get. Plus you can shrink and flip the UI to maximize screen size.

Pings. What do you mean pings are not quick? I can agree that maybe that the wheel needs to be expanded to 6. Though you go to far in descriptions. I can go all game with only doing smart pings. Yellow means missing if in a lane or unsure if in a non lane, can mean retreat when comboed with red. Red means danger or major objective. There is the OMW so people know. The fact that you think its does not work makes me not trust you to work on it. Could it be better? yes, though you have to understand what has achieved.

Meh loading screen. Its just a place to troll and flame more. It is your most harmless idea though.

I almost think we are playing different games.

I definitely agree with the Spells and UI changes. Tons of customization options should always be the first priority of Riot. Everyone is different, and everyone plays differently. The loading screen seems nice, but one of less necessary improvements. I don't really see anything wrong with the current ping system, but I wouldn't mind much if it were changed. Lastly, yes to the TAB screen. Yes to more organization. Please, gods, yes!

When I first saw this, I thought that it was about the aesthetics of League. Imo, those need some work too. You guys should check into that.

all of the above

Where's the "All of them"

The pings are limited to reduce spamming, which can get annoying. unless you meant more types of pings, which would be usefull.

The tab screen is fine, but the ability to rearrange players could be usefull, e.g. always have the support on the bottom and the jungler on top.

The undo spells thing probably wouldn't really be that necessary, I've messed up and put 3 levels into shunpo before but that's mostly because I don't play Katarina very often. So my fault really.

the loading screen chat seems like it would be the most useful, for discussing win conditions and strategies, giving tips vs an unfamiliar opponent, that sort of thing.

the ability to freely move the UI elements is something people have been requesting for quite a while.

A feature I would want is a button above the mini map to turn auto attacks on/off

Is there ever gonna be a option to rotate the camera?

It might seem silly, but the camera as it is HEAVILY favors the blue side, since the actual screen view is the shape of a trapezium that allows more view forward than backward.

Now, I use the un-locked cam but still find it VERY difficut to land skillshots on the purple side. It might cause confusion, but this would be really helpful

Pls Rito :(
