Dynamic Queue, The Curse in Disguise
I had taken a break from playing league, but recently reinstalled. I had heard about the new champ select process, and I had played with the old team builder, which was fun, and at first I thought it was great that Riot was expanding this sort of method for champ select. I thought, wow, you might even be able to play ranked without a cold war standoff of troll threats over roles.
I've been playing a month or so now. I could probably count the number of times I've gotten my primary role on both hands.
Now, support is my second role of choice, but I began to think that in picking support 2nd, I would never get my primary role. So even though I didn't necessarily have any desire, experience or the champion pool to play these others roles, I tried picking them for my secondary in the hopes that they were more popular, and I would get a chance to play my main role, which is jungle.
Didn't happen. I just got those roles instead.
Riot has effectively created a firewall between me and the role I want to play, and the champs I've bought that I enjoy and have purchased skins for with real money. It's all locked away behind the new champ select. I have no way of knowing when or if I will get the chance to play with them.
It's gotten bad enough, that I've started begging the junglers in the lobby, to tell me what mystical combination of things they picked to magically arrive in champ select as the jungler.
I really hope some changes are made soon. I think the ideas around Dynamic Queue come from a good place, but the implementation just isn't there. I have 1 game as my primary role in my entire match history. At this point, I would be happy to wait 5 minutes for the role I want, rather than never get it again.
