Locking missions behind Ranked participation

To say it simply, not everyone enjoys ranked play. Some people hate the competitive nature of it. Some people are tired of trolls and afks. Or some people like me hate what ranked play turns them into. I used to be incredibly toxic, to the point of getting multiple 2 week bans for flaming (got permaed for asking a player to play safe when I should have ignored them, my fault) But I don't play ranked because of that. I hate feeling stressed. I hate feeling the pressure to win over enjoying the game. I've reformed, want to just enjoy some casual games, get a few skins here and there and enjoy doing stupid shit. But locking 2 missions behind playing ranked feels incredibly bad. Riot has said multiple times that they don't want their missions to encourage certain playstyles, like fishing for a good KDA and throwing the game when you could have ended. But shouldn't that translate across the rift and into players themselves? Not everyone enjoys ranked, or aram, or tft. So why lock missions behind a certain gamemode people may not enjoy? Seems counter to their own philosophy. And you may disagree with me because 'its free don't complain about it' and that's ok, that's your belief. But for the people who do care, do you think this is something Riot should carry forward? Or do you agree with me in saying that it promotes people to play ranked who don't enjoy it or shouldn't even be playing ranked.

The entire point of the quest line involving the ranked games is that its EVERYTHING for the start of the season: Sett New drakes Mecha "event" Ranked reset

There's a difference between 'free stuff' and 'free stuff*'

  • terms and conditions may apply, you won't enjoy how you get it but who cares go make the ranked experience worse for everyone

And you can encourage competitiveness in other ways that having people play ranked. FIrst bloods, towers before 15 min, killing plates, vision scores. Ya know, things that actually help you win the game.

i completely agree. i've played for about a year and a half and i wont ever touch ranked with a 10 mile pole. the ranked rewards are never worth the hassle of climbing and falling. and every player in ranked expects players to go by the rule book and so much as 1 death they will start crying to report that player for feeding. all ranked is is a dick measuring contest to prove who is supposedly better with their ranks. i treat league as a game not a sport. i am not competitive in any aspect and enjoy playing for fun regardless of win or lose.

You could always just do it in Flex que. Very few people treat it as though its Ranked.

That's true, but I know myself personally will still attach the 'ranked' tag to it and be in a different state of mind which I don't enjoy. But for others this is a good solution!

The missions literally are commemorating the start of the new Ranked season. Why are you complaining that missions celebrating Ranked require you to do ranked? That's like going into a Chik-fil-a and complaining that they only serve chicken based meat.

Most event missions have general quests. Like killing turrets or dragon and baron or kills or cs. Typing it to a specific game mode feels bad for people who don't want to engage with that game mode. So why am I 'complaining' ? IT's clearly stated in the post, I, and many others, don't enjoy ranked for a variety of reasons and Riot should not want to boost the amount of ranked players with people who don't want to play just so they can get free stuff. It degrades the ranked experience for those who do want to play it seriously. And no, your comparison is not the same. I'm not going to Chick-fil-a and complaining, I'm going to the normal place I go to, having 'FREE STUFF' put in my face if I go to another place I don't go to.

If you are uninterested in stuff related to ranked, simply ignore it. But otherwise, the missions are intended to mark the start of the Ranked season, so thus are tied to playing Ranked in the new season.

Furthermore, if you don't actually care about ranked, just play it like you would a normal game. That's all Ranked really is, people just get so caught up on "AHMERGAHD, MAH LP" that they forget it's exactly the same as Normals. The stress is only there if you allow it to be there.

As soon as you say 'simply ignore it' you show that you are missing the point. The point is that by saying 'hey, we have free stuff for you' that makes it so a majority of the player base won't ignore it. That's the entirety of the issue, that the rewards are tied to the game mode.

And some people don't want to make the expirence worse for other people. If I treat it like a normal game then I'll do stupid shit like Taric jg for shits and giggles and my team will probably be worse off for it because 'omg jg troll'

So please, if you want to contribute to the discussion great! But first you need to acknowledge the reasons that I'm pointing out why this is bad and refute them, not ignore them. Or else you aren't contributing anything.
