@Riot - How did you "buff" Tahm Kench?

The KY Caveman·6/30/2016, 3:15:43 AM·5 votes·1,462 views

When I'm not playing Yorick and/or when I play ranked, I play Tahm Kench Top... I would like some clarity.

Today's patch hit me in the feels. Tahm Kench has been my "I'm comfortable with this champion and my ability to play him" pick since shortly after he was released. The game has always been "play till 6, then kick lick 'em where it hurts."

Since he was released, several things have happened to TK: His HP% damage on ult was reduced, his (already useless ult) received a delay before recast, then today. 1-HP% was further reduced by a LOT -- from 6% to 1.5%. I read somewhere that acquired taste stacks and causes more damage... This puts it at 4.5% after several moments and lots of potential damage is past. However, I guess movinh the %HP damage to passive from ult means you technically buffed levels 1-5. Albeit, while nerfing 6-18. And that's only to champions! You still majorly nerfed damaging minions and monsters! 2--Patch notes say Q was buffed, though it didn't feel like it changed at all in the two games I played since patching. This could be due to the previous point, where we discerned that TK's damage was nerfed today. 3---Devour wasn't changed. In fact, I never recalled any big buffs or nerfs to Devour so I checked the wiki. It was nerfed near the beginning of Tahm's existence to remove the additional movement speed when devouring an ally champion and retreating from battle. 4----Thick Skin no longer grants 100% Grey Health, but it felt like the heal kicked in a lot faster... And the active disappears after 3 seconds instead of fading over 6. The active bubble can be cast a lot more frequently, (from 16-12 seconds to 6, now) but it is overall much weaker than it was. At literally every level, E is less of a shield and less of an heal... But I can do it more often.

The range on ult was increased. When TP is down, I use it to move a little further and very infrequently I also use it to go into a fight of some sort. The cast delay that was implemented so early on was cut from 1 second to a quarter second, so it is easier to use as an escape now. The warning time was decreased... But what do my enemies have to fear anyway? I'm like a catfish with...Baleen is what whales have, I think. Baleen's not terrifying.

In what universe did you buff TK? My damage at every point in the game is down. I guess more frequent bubbles as a support can help, so you accomplished your support buff. However, you did that at the cost of absolutely destroying Tahm's damage output.

To restate my question: How do you consider this a buff to Tahm Kench when I (very clearly) consider it a nerf?

he shouldn't be viable in his secondary role more so than his main role. when tahm was viable top nobody had a chance against him even his theoratical counter match ups couldn't do shit.

lulu got nerfed because she was too good in solo lanes so did tahm.

its better to have the intended role be stronger. cmon you can't have everything

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the support role. I don't deal much with supports in game because I'm in the top lane (most of the time). I have tried to play Tahm Kench support, but I couldn't wrap my head around his gameplay. It felt like "devour and run away" and "take your adc to mid lane". Jungle TK didn't make snse to me due to his super low damage output on monsters -- his goal is to buy your team a few more seconds in a team fight with a stun and devour.

I'm a borderline bronzie (silver 5!)-- I don't see much TK in game point blank period. I don't watch Esports very often (but when I do, I don't see TK). I guess I'm just failing to understand how in the patch notes (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-613-notes) these are called buffs. Overall, this is a major nerf to Tahm in every aspect except two: a little damage added to levels 1-5 and he shields more often -- bear in mind, (E) he is healed less and shields are smaller.

If he is barely played anyway in any role, why nerf him?

Munch, Tahm top was viable yesterday. And I'm not asking for everything. Granted, he was intended as a support, but he's barely picked as a support! I checked my last 20 games (small pool, I know) and Tahm was played in 6 of them. I played Tahm in 6 of them (coincidence?) On a website that analyzes picks and bans and whatnot, Tahm came in at a ban rate 1.16% and pick rate support 1.48%/top .73%. In a few days after people have been able to play him (and maybe like me realize he is somewhat unplayable -- personal opinion, of course), maybe there will be updated numbers. But this is an overall major nerf to an underplayed champion. His intended role barely benefits from this change.

Yetii, I don't feel the mobility change. This was removed forever ago and now re-implemented. It feels good when it happens, but I can't say I feel the difference due to being in the top lane. Immensely cutting that cast delay is fantastic on ult. However, (again, only two games this patch) catching anyone out in my lane is kind of a silly thought. It would aide me if I snowballed hard in lane or if I was support/jungle, but it's still mostly just an escape tool at this point.

I'm not trying to just be a Negative Nancy here, but I just fail to understand.

Any improvement to a champion's mobility is vastly better than a damage nerf. Look at the change to Ahri, where she lost her 20% damage amp but gained MS on her Q.

The ability of Kench to snap cast his ult is insane, it lets him gank his own lane similarly to how Fiddlesticks does. You have lower damage but you catch people out better.

Anyway the nerf to Titanic Hydra was bad enough to make top Kench not relevant. Supports stay in bot lane.

yeah because he's designed and is supposed to be played as a support, please

SaltyKracka6/30/2016, 3:20:43 AM2 votes

They gave him more base damage and changed his scaling to total health instead of bonus health.

Thus, it's a buff to support Kench.

They couldn't really care less about top Kench with these changes.

Of note, the damage on passive is total health. When it was on his ult it was %bonus health.

The majority of these changes were to balance him around a single role: support. When his solo lane was strong, his supporting was too strong. When his support was balanced around, his solo lane ability was too weak.

sorry for the necro but the change on TahmKench `s E being turned down to 3 seconds is definitely a nerf...not because you have to manage it more but because everytime TahmKench presses E to activate thick skin thats another half second where he cant even move until the animation ends.

Sure they made it so he can use it effectively and force the enemy to tear down 2 of his health bars...but meanwhile they made it so its harder for him to contribute to a fight.

My only question is does boots of swiftness counter him constantly rooting himself not talking about his w when he eats an enemy, talking about his q e and after teleport on r cause item 3111 doesnt...

Maybe they should give TahmKench a way to animation cancel so they can increase the skill on this champ.
