How do you play the new Cassiopeia?

I didn't play a lot Cassiopeia when she was first released. The mana cost was kinda to high for me to play. But somehow after the rework in 2014 I absolutely loving her. She worked very well for me. I carried a lot of games with her but now I am kinda lost. I suck and don't know how to play the new Cassiopeia.

That's how I play most of the time. Get Q first and harass my opponent. Every time he or she try to farm just Q. After getting E you can do much more dmg. Q and then use the speed to spam E at your opponent till you miss you Q and E is on cool down again. After that you might want to get some mana back. No problem just last hit with E and you get full mana plus 1,5% max mana back. And then you can do that all over again. And your W is also good for slow, vision, escape tool and farm tool. With 7 seconds you can farm in peace without worry about missing the poison on the creep.

But now I really have no idea how to play her right. Q got lesser range now so it's harder to harass. Also the poison effect are kinda....unclear. I don't always realize if the target is still poisoned or not. W got such a long cool down. 22 seconds... and minimum range..and last for only 5 seconde ..and you can throw it over walls..and it give no vision. I have no idea how this is better now. Sure you can ground enemy but you trade too much for that effect. E really doesn't do much dmg if the target isn't poisoned. So you must more or less use Q and then E. Without it.. The spell is just too weak. And if you miss the Q you can't simply throw you W now. Minimum range, can't throw it over wall and no vision.. I use to have a really easy match vs Yasuo and Zed but now I have no chance. Miss the Q and it's over. I also can't use E for farm now. The dmg is too low. I don't mind farm with E and then wait 5 seconds. But now I must hit Q first

Do I have to play her like a range Mage now? Max Q first and keep the opponent at distance? Or still max E and play aggressive? Or is W the way to go? What masterie and rune and item would you suggest? I main her but I am no pro. I really wanna keep playing Cassiopeia but I have no idea now how to play her well.

Thank for the upcoming advises

Note that she's very weak now and getting a hotfix soon that should make her stronger.

She's really good at getting cs with her E and she scales really hard into a lategame dps threat, so you want to try and enforce a farm lane. Get a tear early to start stacking towards that big powerspike. To help you out in lane you should also try to get a Catalyst early, that item causes you to gain a ton of health when you're cs'ing minions (about one health potion every two waves) and more health on top of that for the casts you use to to harass your opponent, plus mana back if you get hit with anything. The whole boots thing actually frees up a lot of gold to make it pretty easy to get both of these.

Cooldown reduction is also really good on her now whereas before it was pretty much worthless. Scaling cdr quints can give you a ton of dps potential, and you should try to pick up some ap items with cdr and utility like abyssal scepter or zhonya's. Morello's also has a lot of cdr and utility but with tear + a catalyst item you shouldn't have any more mana problems.

Since W isn't useful once enemies get on top of you, you should get used to using it earlier in trades and team fights to prevent enemies from jumping on you and add more damage over the fight instead of merely being the back-up button for "whoops, missed my Q". It's easier to land at a distance due to its faster cast speed and larger AoE, then the slow + grounded sets up a guaranteed hit for your Q (they can't even flash out of it!)

Make sure to ask your jungler politely for blue buff, it's hugely beneficial for you.

1: Liandry's and Ryali's are must haves for her before, and even more so now.

2: She is a control mage/ hypercarry hybrid. If you are ahead, race down those kills landing Q's and E's all day long and stop them from escaping with W. If behind, focus on zone control, punish them for getting too close punish them for trying to cs, punish them for roaming., but still play like a bitch, and let them push the wave under your tower.

3: You are not an iniator, let someone who is beefier, or stronger movement do that, just be ready and close enough to blow up whomever they pick out.

My final piece of advice that took me forever to learn on control mage types, is be aware, that hitting everything at max range may not be the best option, be a little closer, don't let them run away, but also don't make it where they can get away free, if you have to retreat.

I think you're better off trying just get AP and cdr. Rylai's might still be really good or maybe you can just get away with using your W slow and a hextech gpl-008, but Liandry's seems like you're really hurting your damage potential over more AP and cdr.

Play her as Support. =)

I tried that as well, not sure if she is viable as support but probably not bad.

I think one of the reasons she has such a low win rate is that people try to play her like the old Cassiopeia. But that's not how to play her anymore.

First thing I did after her rework was sit down and think what kind of build complements her the best. And what I noticed is that her ap ratios are very bad now, considering that her passive does not supplement her lack anymore. Her sustain in lane is quite good now but her damage went down. So for Cassio to be most effective we have to build her more tanky and at the same time try to work around the fact that ap is not as effective for her anymore. So we buy more items with abilities and avoid pure ap items.

A good build for the new Cassio imo would be something like this: item 3027 item 3151 item 3110item 3116 item 3065 item 3001

Also I switched my Mastery from Deathfire Touch to Thunderlords because TD scales more with levels and DFT more with AP.
