@riot or @meddler why does Darius' ult not go on cooldown when he misses it

i just feel as though if i'm playing Khazix and ult just as darius ults or Zed or any mage and i use my zhonyas that i should be rewarded for dodging his ult instead of finishing the animation just for him to dunk me anyway

i'm thinking about it in comparison to a caitlin ult if she's channelling it and a team mate kills her target it resets in about 5 sec i think while if she fires and the target zhonyas or dodges it somehow without going behind a team mate that's that she has to wait for her actual cooldown . i know there are obviously some implications because of how their ults are pretty different but i feel like Darius should be punished for being reckless (even though it's part of his theme as a champion)

overall i'd be happy to know if it's

  1. intentional
  2. his code was just made that way

and with the new buffs to his ult i don't feel like this would be too much of a nerf if applied just a though :) !

EDIT: it also adds counterplay that's not too easy

I think this is true for other targeted abilities if the target ceases to 'exist' or be targetable during the casting animation. For example if Cait starts Ulting someone but they Zhonya while channeling (but before the shot fires) the Ult will just reset.

Darius' Ultimate isn't a Skillshot, its Targeted, so I think this is working as intended.

Well, you said it yourself... The difference between Cait's ult and Darius ult is that Cait's is a channeling ult and Darius's isn't...

All champs have one or the other. Some channels can be interrupted, and some cant - like you can interrupt Karthus's channel with a silence, but you can't interrupt Lux's or Ezreals channel, except through death.
