Has anyone had any real success with new poppy?

I been playing her lately and i dont know she feels very under whelming. I had some ok games but nothing that felt super good or right. If i build her tank she feels very weak and still squishy and if i play her dmg her dmg feels weak and she is more squishy. I been messing with masterys and such but i just dont know.

Here's my experience with the old Poppy

Yes, the new Poppy is extremely weak top lane. She gets easily shoved out and/or killed by most meta top laners.

  1. She has no sustain
  2. She has no ranged abilities with which to CS; No, a 15 second auto attack doesn't count.
  3. She has no damage unless you get a wall stun; anybody that's played the old Poppy for more than 5 games knows that those are rare. If you do manage to get one, your opponent will learn to not stand in front of a wall.
  4. Your passive shield being down gives your opponent a 15 second window to win all trades.
  5. She has very little wave clear.

  • Here's an (incomplete) list of champion that crap on Poppy in lane: Chogath Darius DrMundo Fiora Fizz Gnar Irelia Kayle Kennen Malphite Olaf Pantheon Quinn Renekton Rumble Ryze Shyvana Singed Teemo Tryndamere Trundle Vladimir

  • Poppy beats Jax early. However, Jax outscales her pretty hard once they both have 1 item.

  • Poppy can't really shove Nasus out of lane anymore. Since she only does physical damage now, Nasus gets to rush item 3110 and sit pretty getting those stacks.

  • Champions that I'm not completely sure about the matchup yet: Ekko Gangplank Maokai Riven Sion TahmKench Volibear MonkeyKing Yasuo

  • Champions that I'm sure Poppy can beat: Aatrox Shen

Poppy has a decent levels 1 and 2. Anything past that, she loses trades against nearly all champions if:

  1. Her shield is down
  2. She doesn't get the wall stun

THE MOST underrated nerfs to Poppy:

  1. Removal of her magic damage from Q and E. Opponents now can rush armor to neutralize her damage.
  2. Base damage on her E - wall stun nerfed from 425 to 260. To "compensate" she has a 100% bonus AD ratio on it. That's 165 bonus AD that Poppy has to build in order to break even. To put that into perspective, that's item 3078 + item 3508 + item 3031 or item 3074 + item 3072 You can't build these items on Poppy and not expect to get blown up in fights.

Basically what it comes down to is that the removal of her old Passive hurts a lot. The matchups she lost are now even worse for her. There were matchups that old Poppy won JUST because her old passive existed. Examples of that include Tryndamere and DrMundo. Tryndamere couldn't crit her and Mundo cleavers never did full damage. And now she doesn't have those. The new passive does not in any way make up for the loss of her old one.

Bonus: Before her release on the live server, I predicted she would have a low 40s (<42%) win rate. Well after a day and a half with almost 80k games worth of data on her across NA, EUW, and Korean servers, she has a 40% win rate (according to OP.gg).

I'm more of a jungle player, and so I've taken her there for a few games. She seems alright, her clear speed is fine and she stays really healthy. The main problem that I see in jungle Poppy is her lack of gank potential. She pretty much has to come in from behind with every single gank, because her only gap closer is pretty weak for ganking honestly. The range is super short and if you don't hit it at a perfect angle it can actually save your enemy. I think adding a slow to her E no matter what would make things a bit better for her (sort of like Bard's Q) or perhaps increasing the range she can dash.

Her teamfighting is actually pretty good since you have your dash that can knock enemies away from your team and your ult as a disruption tool. IMO she's more of a peeling or supportive type tank than a full on damage soaking or bruiser type champ. Her Q is adequate for damage (up to 12% max health damage? Yes please) especially for a tank. I built her as a bruiser one game with Warrior, Cleaver, and then tanky, and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between that and full Tank. Her scalings are so poor that tank just makes more sense.

I think the rework overall filled a niche that we don't really have right now, she's basically a tank Janna. You want to kill the carry? Poppy just says "HAMMER" and you're back in your base. So I think she's good at what she does, but taking her out of her element doesn't really work for her. She's not a champion that you should be playing like Garen or Darius. She should be played more like a Shen or a Braum. She protects the carries instead of looking for kills.

Shes pretty fun, she can aslo jungle, her ult is good to get rid of people who tp's since as soon as you see a tp you charge your hammer and just nail them away from the fight.

Grasp of the undying feels really good on her, and going an off tank bruiser seems to work really well. I can't speak for other people and my place in plat 4 isn't a great determination for this but, i usually end up with Boots, Cleaver, Maw, Iceborn and then tank items depending on the match. 300~ AD and 180-200 Armor and MR and 40% CDR makes her pretty fun. 5 second cooldown on wall smash and then ability to live in team fights with undying, you soak up a lot of damage and have the ability to remove a few people from the fight with your ultimate.

I've found new poppy to be a lot of fun and while her kill potential isn't huge, you can make pretty big plays.

I agree, Poppy feels like a 2-patch post release where they nerf a champion into the ground and make them unplayable. Having a low win rate for a new champion isn't too unusual, but she definitely doesn't feel like the champ she is designed to be. She is supposed to be a top lane, but fails on basically every need a top laner would require. No sustain, extremely limited damage and CC, weak shield on a long CD. Her late game can be fairly strong, but weaker than most, and considering the reduced avg time a game now lasts, that is hardly useful.

I tend to agree, Poppy seems very strange... not weak but just not fitting the meta (FOR ONCE, THIS TERM APPLIES).

I don't want Poppy buffs.... most fail-Poppy players fail because they don't understand how to play the character (Ex: OMG why my ult send them TOWARDS THEIR BASE if I hit them from the other side), really basic things like that.

In toplane, very much so. She's also surprisingly strong against Riven.

Honestly, I don't get why people say they have such a hard time with Poppy. My first couple games were rough, but now I do really well. My second ever penta (and first one I can feel proud of -- last one was with Fiora) was with the new Poppy, and I've gotten upwards of 18 kills in a game with her. She's incredibly strong in the right hands, but falls on her face when someone plays her badly (she's like a bruiser Azir -- really high skillcap now).

I don't build her tanky unless I'm supporting, in which case I swap out BC for the 500 HP Eye item. Usually my build is a bunch of damage items, an armor item and either an MR item (usually Maw) or Sterak's (for all AD). Even when built for damage, she still doesn't do much unless you use her kit properly.

Just keep playing her, and you'll get the hang of it. ^^

Oh, and I should mention that I play her in every role but ADC with a good success rate (I think my Poppy winrate is ~50%, and it keeps climbing the more games I play her in). She can be outplayed, but she can also destroy people. I like to invade the enemy jungle at level 2 (after my leash) and get first blood with her, something I usually only do with Eve and Shaco. :P

She's quickly becoming one of my favorite champs.

Nah she is ok.
