How KDA number works?

Ok dont judge please keep toxic comments at bay. I've been playing for 3 years now but I installed the game when i was 12 and started to play it at 14 now im 17 and now is that I understand the game more ok? so I see KDAs that are 5, 3.16, 1.01 stuff like that and correct me if im wrong but would 1 be bad and 5 excellent? or no?
