Why do dashes get to break cc?

RagnatheBloodedg··38 votes·3,169 views

Why is it when I land, solidly, and skill shot that is not death sentence, all these champions with movement skills get to buffer out of them? Call it skill if you want, but it is extremely frustrating to know even if I land this one move, they get out of it with a skill on a lower cooldown, or just play super safe until they can dodge it again. What was the reasoning behind making skill shot cc champions less fun to play?

Dashes don't break cc. CC doesn't stop cast animations though. What you are likely seeing is the cc is hitting them during the cast animation for the dash so it looks like they are "breaking" the cc. CC also doesn't stop dashes mid dash with a few exceptions (displacements, Veigar's E, Poppy's W etc)

Malz's ult and Tahm's Devour stops dashes as well, strangely no other suppressions will though.

Saianna1 votes

Malzs ult doesn't break dashes.. It just makes tether wtf-long

Auz the Ripper1 votes

nah, they changed it sometime in season 4 so that it did. it's pretty hilarious to watch a kha'zix or tristana drop out of the sky like a rock. it can look pretty buggy sometimes though

Saianna1 votes

Then I guess there are some rare cases where it doesn't work, cause I've played Malz few days ago and my ultimate didn't stop dash.. It just extended

Auz the Ripper1 votes

It only stops them after the .25 second cast time, so faster dashes can still get pretty far before they get shutdown

Spoofghoul1 votes

Sion Q can stop dashes just gotta time it right in which case you get to both stun the guy and put his dash on cooldown.

1374346 votes

That is because his Q also displaces them (knocks them up) if charged long enough

Spoofghoul2 votes

Yea so there is a form of cc to cut down dashes for the people who want to

I have not seen dashes break CC.

J4's Flag and Drag is specifically noted that it can do that through a snare

Oh that makes sense then, I'll delete my comment

ever seen a ez break a blitz grab/thresh hook because he blinked at the right time?

Ralanr1 votes

Yes. That's called dodging.

No, we're talking the cc landing then he gets to hop away anyways.

Ralanr1 votes

Oh. When he said right time, I thought he meant right before it lands.

Robbit Mang3 votes

this is becase his blink has ~.5 second cast point, if the hook lands in that very short time then he will continue going. It's not really a big deal because he still gets CCed if its an ashe arrow etc and hes only like 300ish units away? takes about a second to walk that far

Nuparu3 votes

which is still bullshit

if he's pulled during the anim it should stop the cast

Robbit Mang3 votes

See that totally makes sense in the case of vayne and Lucian because their dashes start instantly and travel quickly, ezreals dash has an entire half second before it actually moves him, meaning your skillshot still does damage but just doesn't pull him. In the case of thresh he's still fucked because thresh can pull himself onto ezreal and flay and ezreal has nothing left to do, in the case of Morgana he's still bound just a few hundred units away and you'll have plenty of time to reach him. The only champion his blink is any good against if it's not perfectly predicted a full second in advance is blitzcrank.

Vistha Kai1 votes

It's only good aganist Blitz... and every other champion with skillshot CC.

I hate my ADC1 votes

What is specifically good about it? He has a CAST TIME on it. This means that instead of outright doing nothing, the hook will stun and damage but not pull. If you shoot your hook at Lucian or Vayne... well tough luck, you did no damage, no stun and certainly not a pull because their dash is instant and they are already out of the way when the hook land. The only thing it's good against are good Nami players who can land their Q against enemies in the middle of their dash or against certain champions who can easily stop a dash like Veigar or Poppy.

Vistha Kai1 votes

If Ezreal had a CHANNEL instead, Blitz's hook would stun, damage and pull him.

Vistha Kai1 votes

That's why those abilities should be changed to channels.

I can understand it being a thing for spells with a split-second delay, but when applied to abilities with 0.5+ sec long delays, it's just bullshit.

Just like you the only way to stop Lux or Ezreal's ults is to kill them.

What are you talking about? Not sure about ezreal, but any form of cc above a slow or blind stops lux ult. Just the other day when I was playing with my bro, we got a baller ass jax and arius triple kill against their team because I apprehended Lux right before her ult whent off and dunked her sorry butt.

Vistha Kai1 votes

I didn't say she's immune to CC while ulting, just that her ult will always go off unless you kill her before that happens.

Which is exactly the kind of situation you described.

No the apprehend seemed to stop it unless if Im not remembering correctly. The dunk came after the apprehend and the animations for both would have allowed her to get her ult off if it truly was unable to be stopped by any cc.

EDIT nvm, youre right. I guess there was either a bug or the animations of the pull and dunk together were not as big as I thought?

Vistha Kai1 votes

First of all Lux's ult has two... parts, so to speak.

The one is the laser, it will always fire from where Lux casted it, even if she was displaced. The other part is the melee-like range in front of her that will hit whatever is in front of her even if she was displaced.

Perhaps you've seen Lux's Ult+Flash videos, it's just like that.

i mean as soon as it hooks himhe would blink and the chain would be broken

Phoenix Kotori 1 votes

Ezreal doesn't have a dash, he has a blink.

Chaotic Sage2 votes

Think he may be referring to Trist n Ezreal being able to jump out of some CC like blitz hook etc if they cast it at the right time? Or at least something along those lines?

Hethalean2 votes

This is my assumption as well.

Aír1 votes

I have managed to land morgana binds on mid-air tristana jumps before. As annoying as the distance may be, it is still extremely satisfying.

Vexful2 votes

Only one I can think of is trist jump where a snare holds her still once she lands even though it connected before that. Or how it can break blitz hooks

Quackas2 votes

My issue with this -as a blitz main- is only with tristana(ez is fine imo). Tristana jump will react differently to a blitz grab depending on when you hit her which I think is wrong. If you hit her any time after her jumps peak it will pull her, anytime before and it breaks it. Now this doesn't always work as sometimes what the trist sees and the blitz sees is slightly different resulting in a broken pull when you think it shouldn't have broken.

Hethalean1 votes

What are you specifically talking about?

I know Morgana Q definitely stops a ton of dashes. Veigar stun will make you sad if you're using Zac's slingshot. Ahri Charm will apply after you're done dashing (if there is CC duration left).

EDIT: I was wrong about Morgana Q.

A lot of things make you sad when you're using Zac's Slingshot. I think its really dumb they made his E interruptible once he's in the air, and then resets him back to where he launched from, vs where he was when he got interrupted.

Morg Q does not stop any dashes. The animation will continue regardless. Veigar stun will. It will even stop a tristana jump, but not an ezreal E. Dashes are favored because otherwise the meta would be CC based which is quite a lot more toxic than a mobility meta.

But I believe that roots should stop all dashes period (not blinks). It makes no sense that people like Morgana are allowed to have a 3s 1.0 AP ratio on her Q because people can dash away. It isn't balanced and defeats the purpose of roots meaning to lock mobile champs down causing it to have to have stupid amounts of damage and a ridiculous amount of time.

Quite honestly we need to make a new CC type called binding that has the characteristics of roots, but roots now hold a champ in place regardless of movement. So if you hit a Fiora mid Q with a root it will stop her in place. But if you hit her mid dash with a bind she will continue forward and then eat the full duration of the CC.

But I really think Riot needs to make each CC actually feel unique in the game. Sometimes even after playing this game for 3 years I have no clue what is going on with the CC that is hitting me because there are so many types and all you know is you are being restricted (and when you have 5 different CCs it makes it difficult to see everything that hits you). Slows are really well done in that you can tell it is a slow. But can you tell when you are stunned or rooted? No not unless you are the champ using the spell or being hit by it and realizing it was a specific CC.

Hethalean2 votes

Oh, I was mistaken on Morgana Q. I haven't played her in a while now. I thought it did. I'm still curious to know what he's curious on, and rereading my question. I hope that I didn't sound snarky. It sounds off from what I wanted (genuine curiosity) now that I reread it. haha

RagnatheBloodedg1 votes

for clarification, it involved nautlius q against lucian dash. Made me super salty watching my hooks "land", but no damage or displacement. Based on the way another guy explained it, it kind of makes sense, but at the same time it just feels frustrating watching a character clearly get hit by something, but due to engine and coding not suffer any detrimental effect aside from a minor loss in mana.

LadyRenly1 votes

I liked it when Ahri charm would interrupt whatever the heck you were doing, it felt nice calculating the perfect charm and holding someone slippery down

Vistha Kai2 votes

Nah, it was a bug.

Just like the concept of "cast time" is.

Joe Dredd1 votes

Any non displacement cc will not stop a dash that's already began, save for yasuo dash because riot hates yasuo.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Because his dash is very spammable and otherwise would give him semi-invulnerability to CC.

Joe Dredd1 votes

It wouldn't because he can't use it outside of being near minions.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Because it can't be used on champions, monsters and pets.

Llanite1 votes

If the shot hits, they cannot cast any spell, including dash. Heck, if your spell hits them during the dash, the dash stops.

Research before you rant.

I hit a yasuo dead center with Aurelion Sol's stun and he didn't get stunned, he was mid-dash.

Vistha Kai1 votes

You obviously missed him.

Yasuo's dash is literally stopped by every form of CC that impairs movement, except for slows.

Only true for displacement-based CC.

Stuns like TF gold card or roots like Morgana binding will be applied starting when they impact, but the dash will finish normally.
