Assassins rework idea-Katarina

Right now Kata feels pretty bad to play, early you don't do much and only after you hit 6 you start to shine. With the assassins update i think it's time for the killing redhead to make a comeback with a little rework on her ult and passive.

What i'm thinking about is using the old Fiora ultimate by making it single target all the time and have Kata stack a debuff on the enemy champs which empowers her spells.

New passive-Upon hitting a champion with a spell she applies a debuff making Kata next basic spell have a bonus effect. The stacks also empower the ult.

Upon hitting 3 stacks kata can either use an empowered version of one of her basic spells or use her ultimate for the bonus effects.Upon using any of her abilities all stacks are consumed and a new one is applied.

The enchanted spells Q:the dagger can bounce back on allready marked targets(if there are 2 targets the dagger will bounce between them, but without triggering the bonus dmg) W:throws daggers around her while doing the spin dealing 50% of w dmg on hit E:gets 0,5 second of cc invulnerability after appearing next to the target

New ult-Has the voracity passive on it now.At the base is the old Fiora's ult.Kata blinks to the enemy champion violently "dancing" around him while invulnerable(any thing like ignite, malz's e,zed ults will persist and deal dmg) and deals magic dmg by stabbing the target 3 times(in honor of the old ult,3 vital points are hit).Depending on the number of stacks on the target, the ability has stacking bonus effects. If the target dies WHILE kata is doing the dance (if an ally kills the enemy while kata is in the middle of the ability, the reset still happens, same for if the target dies from the ability, duh) the ability is on a 0,75-1 second(s) cd and the daggers(the debuff) are passed on the nearest target.

1 dagger- 10% increased damage 2 daggers-the target is slowed by 10/15/20% over the duration 3 daggers-kata heals for a % of the damage dealt on each strike(you can time to increase your ally Magic Res in order to help him surive or do whatever)

Things to change for it: -increase the cd of all abilities(not much) -have a minimum cd for all abilities ( we don't nee her to be able to trigger the q damage with another q like in URF) -tweak the base dmg and ratio on all of her abilities -adjust voracity to be able to reset all of her base abilities at any time(if the cd is increased for q,w,e,the passive needs to be modified too to give her the reset) -give her a bar like jhin and annie have to keep track of her stacks

What happens with this: -kata gets a mechanic people can play around(kata can increase her dmg output, while the enemy can limit it) -kata can be relevant in the game -does what an assassin has to (focus on a squishy target and quickly eliminate it)

What i'm thinking about is using the old Fiora ultimate by making it single target all the time and have Kata stack a debuff on the enemy champs which empowers her spells.

As someone who really enjoyed pre-rework Fiora and feels her rework basically replaced her with a new champion that would be cool to use 90% of her old kit, but there's also a reason that skill was removed from the game.

Such a drastic change would essentially be deleting Katarina and replacing her with a new champion.

Ideally reworks should update a champion, making them funner to play as and against, giving the balance team more levers to control balance, and giving a champion the tools they need to be successful when tryhard mode is engaged. But the champion should ultimately feel like the same champion afterwards though, not something entirely new.

With that in mind: there's a big issue with counterplay with such a change. Mainly, Katarina's current ultimate offers a lot of room for counterplay, but her QWE skills do not offer much counterplay. Also: Fiora's old ultimate lacked a lot in regards to counterplay, outside of some exploitative bugs like walking into a brush ending it early or interactions that felt terrible like Thornmail, Dodge, and Blinds.

As-is Katarina feels ok to play against due to her kit being 100% ult-focused and her ult having essentially all the counterplay options, which also allows Katarina players to show some solid degree of skill in an otherwise mechanically simple kit. Blade Waltz with Shumpo and Bouncing Blade would be worse than Fizz's QWE+Zhonya's+QWE combo to deal with.

Also: making Katarina's combo have almost no counterplay would remove a lot of levers to balance her by, mainly leaving the balance team with making Katarina weak enough she's unreliable and her OHKO combo only works out ~50% of the time. Which would basically make her amazing at stomping public games in low Elo but to unreliable to really be considered in pro play.

HA Riot will never give anyone Blade Waltz, that move staying lore only for Fiora. They think it's too broken, and it sorta is, besides "dancing" doesn't really work with Kat.
