What would be a good choice?

I am a marksman with Ashe as my main. I want to branch out into the mage field but I don't know who to pick as a starter to practice with. Which champion would be a good one to start with. I would prefer a mage that is not a support.

I'd just keep trying mages on the free rotation until you find one to your liking. If you tell me why you like Ashe I may be able to give a better ballpark on what you might like.

I mainly liked to keep my distance, using Runaan's Hurricane, having a decent range, and decent in damage. Also I have 8000 IP so I think everything is on the table.

Lux would be nice for you, then. You say that you want a Mage that isn't a support, but pretty much every mage can be played as one. But Lux, she has range, is able to keep her distance, and is more than decent in damage.

Try Karma I think.
She has a ton of utility, she's fun and is less mana-reliant than Lux. Lux is a really good one too though, but she's a bit less forgiving. (Lux is super fun, don't get me wrong, but her E chunks her mana bar)

The cheapest one is a good start just to get the hang of it, I'm pretty sure Ryze is only 450 IP

If you like the potential ashes ult has then you'll probably like Lissandra or Lux.
