Guardian usage, bot lane [Request]

Was having a discussion with a buddy the other day, and was hoping you all could link me some decent clips/explanation videos to help highlight some effective use of the guardian rune. We were in a melee v ranged support bot lane, something like us as Varus/Leo vs Aphe/Thresh (or thereabouts), and my support said he had never used guardian before (lifelong aftershock user). I thought it would be a good segue into talking about our lane positioning in general so I urged him to take it. Did Not go well. Ended up very conflicted in our approach to the lane and we were far weaker in trades because of the constant chatter throughout.

So yeah, videos or long expository posts that could help me find the words to clarify the issue to my bud would be much appreciated.

Guardian is generally best on supports that want to stand next to you or that can easily get next to you, like Rakan, Nami, Braum, and Thresh. It lets them soak up extra damage and makes their bodyblocks more potent.

Aftershock is better on supports that engage hard with CC, like Leona, Pyke, and Thresh (again). They want those extra resistances to make them harder to peel off so they can stay in the action.

Guardian is probably not the best rune for Leona because she doesn't really want to stand close to you. She wants to be pushed up looking for engages, and wants to be as tanky as possible when she goes in. Guardian is better for more a more defensive playstyle, making it harder for the enemy to poke you down while you look for the opportunity to turn.

Guardian needs a bigger range in my humble opinion (yes I know about the Rakan bug where it goes global but that's not what I'm talking about).

You pretty much have to glue yourself to the carry to proc it and, with melee supports who actually take the resolve tree, you're typically diving to apply damage and cc so the rune never gets used by your backline ADC.
