Akali needs changes similar to what Riot did with Aatrox

Akali players are now going Grasp with bruiser builds because she doesn't do enough damage. Akali's survivability is one of the larger reasons why shes good in proplay. Her true stealth shroud allows her to be extremely safe. The problem with it is that while Akali can be safe, her damage output is slow. Because Akali's damage output is slow she needs coordination to target someone. In soloque there is just not the same coordination that pro players have.

Akali's current kit has abilities that work together so you cant really just change one mechanic and have everything be fine. The range of her Q is also the range of her passive, the range of the first E dash is also about the range of the passive, shroud is larger than the size of her passive so that she can run out in it, and her ult is as long as her passive so that she can use it to get the proc.

If Riot truly wants to make Akali's current kit balanced they need to give her changes like they did to Aatrox. Currently her kit is balanced around her passive and having the defenses and mobility to proc her passive. If Riot wants to keep the passive they need to just give up on her being an assassin and balance her to be a skirmisher/fighter. She feels much more satisfying to play when you build items like Triforce and Tiamat on her because they just work in tune with her kit. Akali has a extremely unique kit which most other assassains dont have. Her kit looks more similar to skirmishers.

She has poke with Q and her passive, her W is a defensive tool, R is execute.

Yasuo has a low cd Q that he can poke it, he has defensive abilities with his windwall and passive, and he has multiple dashes with his E. Fiora has mobility with her Q, and defensive abilities with W. Riven has multiple dashes, a defensive ability with her E, and also an execute on her ult.

These champions are very similar to Akali when you dwell into her core playstyle. So, if Riot wants to make Akali a skirmisher, they need to make changes to her kit and release AP bruiser items. Skirmishers build a mix of both damage and defense/bruisery items. There currently really no good AP bruiser items that champions that need them can use.
