Is Zed really Overpowered?

Greetings my fellow summoners!

There has been a lot of talk lately about the current state of Zed. Is he a "healthy assassin" as Rito claims? It can be hard sometimes to differentiate between people simply complaining, and true constructive criticism. So I decided to make a board post where we can actually discuss the current state of Zed, as well as any changes that could repair any problems he may have. Also, there is a poll. Because come on, everyone likes voting in polls.

I think the biggest problem with assassins in general is their ability to absolutely destroy everything in their path while escaping afterward once ahead. People don't like that because it's frustrating to play against. I'd like to think assassins are designed in nature to target the carries or squishier champions in a teamfight, and always weak to fighters and tanks that can shrug off their damage. If Riot were to balance assassins perfectly, they'd probably have to make assassins much, much weaker against the tanks and the fighters (so that they don't destroy entire teams when ahead) while preserving their ability to execute the carries when played well, whether behind or ahead.

He's not absolutely broken like a lot of people seem to say, and his issue is not that he's too strong, but that he's not weak enough. What I mean is that he can do his job (100-0 an isolated target) decently well, but lacks a clear weakness. There are plenty of other assassins that can 100-0 better than Zed, but he can do it well enough and if he fails, he has a lot of ways to compensate.
