What made ADC such a weak role. The introduction of lethality or change in armor pen? was it the tanks? what happened?

ADC's are not weak, we are weaker early game and mid game and as always have a stellar late game, if it gets that far.

the reason why we have fallen off early is because of the ArPen > lethality change/mastry changes, we have lost power while the fighters/tanks have creeped up slightly but NOT because they are OP as they are NOT OP but because we lack the damage early unless we are ahead to deal with them but can still provide the damage back bone for the team.

the reason we lack damage early is the likes of cleaver, ghost blade etc the ones that where previously being built to handle the bruisers and tanks now need time to scale with lethality as opposed to ArPen that was an instant boost.

basically your looking at 2 item spike + lord dom's to deal the desired damage to X champions right now.

and here we have why ''crit'' builds and champions are currently saught after in the ADC role so you can do that damage early through multiple cries which is why a lot of ''pro' adcs are building crit + AS/Crit > doms.

now going off the beaten track ADC's are picked primarily to be the backbone of damage for your team in fights and seiging, this is why Ziggs has been seen a lot in the bot lane recently higher in the ranks as he can poke, zone, siege and destroy 37.5% of a turrets health in a W and Auto combo once he has lich bane with his passive proc, think instant tristana bomb explosion with added spice.

another reason is Ziggs can wave clear better than most the champs in the game and by keeping his turret clear it basically says ''dive me and die bitch's '' its a tactical 4man dive denial when played correctly.

the question is, is this what riot wanted? for ADC's to be an investment for X stage in the game rather than early unless a fair amount ahead?

I think it was the buffs that assassins got along with tank items dealing so much damage. I have have plenty of games where our support and tank top out damage me as the ADC. Makes me feel useless and just a moving target.

yeh i don't see much problem with them, i can see them suffering early game but to me thats a ArPen removal + CotC ''rolling'' everything atm thing, without ArPen until late (of course you can put yourself into late early with good farm) is whats making them feel a little weaker.

As a Kog'Maw main, I can add some details here. In my opinion, Kog'Maw was the weakest (by far) early ADC in the game, but one of the strongest in lategame. After the revert, Kog is just a casual ADC. Weak early and decent late. That is what the ADC role has now. Weak early, and decent lategame. The enemy support can one shot you anytime. Even the tanky ones. The full AP supports are so common in s7, and ofc the assasin reworks and the bruiser/tank damages mean, there are to much damage in the game. Basicly anyone can be an ADC or APC. With the new support items and the lethality changes they can deal damage and survive yours. While Zed with 2 items can 1 shot a Kog with (right time activated) Zhonya's next to his support... that means something is wrong with this game. Just too much damage with no real defense for the ADC. You should build Zhonya's, GA, Frozen mallet and Cleaver to survive 1 assasin burst. While you can do almost no damage on the enemy tank. Everyone just got too much damage while ADCs lost theirs (especially Kog). Ghost blade, Draktar and armorpen changes, etc.

Armor pen builds were pretty popular to give adcs a spike in power sooner into the game, and with crit options currently taking longer to spike, they are pretty much in limbo since the changes to lethality and the like. And if you don't have a mid game, you aren't worth having. ADCs in a nut shell need more umphf right now. Two item crit power spikes take longer to get and don't have the utility that yomu + duskblade had but they aren't actually in that bad a spot, just harder to matter.

Almost every popular ADC rushed armor pen last season. Still seems to work for MF at least, with how she sits back and presses R. Jinx, Jhin, Cait, Twitch, and Vayne seem to be doing fine. Corki seems to be okay in mid lane. Graves is doing okay in the jungle.

Tanks still melt to ADC dps late game, it's just their mid games are stronger due to the pen changes. Also, the game is still just as snowball heavy, if not more, so most games don't make it to the point where ADCs reach critical mass.

Also, I think control mages and caster supports are too strong and need to be toned down, especially ones that benefit from building Redemption.

Um literally everything doing more than our base health 4 times over... all while NOT being a skill shot and NOT needing any items... yea that pretty much did it... give all adc 1k more health base start.
