Fizz Q damage can be dodged, but other targeted dashes can not be dodged.

First of all, I enjoy playing AP fizz and just recently played him for the first time since his 5.2 rework. I forgot earlier that his q no longer did damage when if you flashed before he physically hit with his Q, you could dodge the damage completely. While I think this is logical, I don't think it makes sense that this change has only occurred on fizz when there are plenty of others like this such as Jax's Q or Pantheon's W. I've had plenty of times where I E as Ezreal before Pantheon physically hits me, but still get stunned after my E finishes. I would just like a reasonable explanation as to why this only changed on Fizz other than the fact that they wanted to nerf him.

Jayce's Q in hammer form works the same way. If you flash/blink (idk about dashes, haven't tried) his Q, the damage won't follow through. I do agree they should probably change it, but it might cause problems for other champions, which is why they haven't done it yet. Also it could have been a way to offer "counterplay" to fizz which a lot of people were whining that he didn't have.

i thought ap fizz died when his ult got nerfed? AD bruiser fizz however is bigger cancer then ap fizz.

Amusingly enough, Fizz's Ultimate was the only part of the changes that was a straight up buff.

Fizz's Q also applies both on-hit and spell effects, and specifically goes a set length in the direction of the target. So it's already different. And it was never CHANGED, it was just how it was built from square one.

It was a 5.2 change

BUT CAN YOU DODGE A FISH? Fizz no longer deals damage to the target if they move out of range of Urchin Strike before it completes

Because pre-nerf AP fizz was god-tier broken.

Painful memories.

To be perfectly honest, AD fizz is the only reason that Fizz is being played at all post 5.2. Now that they are gutting that, there is no reason to play fizz over virtually any other assassins. Want an assassin that is ult dependent why no play zed who uses energy instead of mana as well as having a point and click ult with better sustain. Want burst play kat/leblanc.

Unless i am missing something i dont really see a point in playing AP at all, your whole combo will take well over 50% of you mana with every single skill in your kit being dodgeable, if he was resourceless you could possibly justify the changes but not only does he use a ton of mana but he is pure melee except ult.

His AP ratios are getting substantially buffed on PBE. Q AP 0.3 --> 0.5, and W active is gaining a 0.25 AP ratio. So feel free to build Lich Bane on Fizz again.

However, his "missing HP" shred is being moved to his passive and is being converted to DoT (3sec) instead. This part is a nerf.

I feel that the change moves him more towards being a clean-up champ, which is in-line with the whole blood-in-the-water shark theme.

The only reason I played him was because I used to love playing him pre 5.2 and thought I'd see how it went. And yes as i said, I do agree that it makes sense that you can dodge it, but there are many other abilities in the game just like it that have gone unchanged.
