Whos the Riot guy who looks after Nunu....

First id like to say thanks for finally fixing his Q on Golems (Krugs) this was a pretty big buff for him again!

But I would like to talk about the direction you seem to be taking with him ATM especially with the changes too his W that seem to be up on the PBE and his last change where you nerf'd his E.

If any Rioter could shed some light on the calls for these last few changes id love to hear them! Thank you.

Nunu's a very unique champion and I do enjoy playing him, but he could just be so much cooler. It's been 4-5 years and his kit is showing a lot of age. By no means underpowered, just antithematic and relatively bland.

Nunu's last E change didnt even suffer from a lower CC duration it actually got a buff but that buff didnt out weight the nerf from the AP ratio drop and the fact that if you didn't have frozen heart in your build early on it almost made you go 100% OOM very quickly if you maxed E first over Q which is always what I have done since S4( I do not mean go OOM in the jungle I mean going on in teamfights mid and late game). The last E change he got I actually switched and went from maxing E>Q>W> to Q>W>E thats how much I didn't value the change because the slow got a bump from 20% to 40% at lv 1 which on his old E you needed lv 3 to achieve a 40% slow.

His W change that could happen, will in my eyes just hurt him in the long run and just put him in a weaker position ATM then he already is and make him even go more OOM without a frozen heart in his build now then he already can get if you don't watch and manage your passive procs right. Also his W could be cast almost instantly on someone new / the same person the way it is now with max CDR.

I think this might be there to give Nunu more opportunities to have an impact in a fight, although how it's being done isn't really all that interesting.

A lot of the changes to tanks recently have been a lot about giving them more spammable abilities or persistent effects that give the champion less periods of downtime in a fight and more opportunities for them to contribute in a fight. Leona's recent changes to her Q and R are a good example of this kind of change, while the cooldown reduction to Nautilus' E last year is also a good example of this kind of change, and while it wouldn't seem like it I think Riot wants Nunu to have a W that has more impact in teamfights.

Having his W at a lower cooldown lets him use it a lot more if he survives in a teamfight, while the duration nerf is necessary to compensate for that change. It's also harder to have 100% uptime on it because you need more cdr (15 second CD with 12 second duration needs only 20% cdr for 100% uptime, while 10 second cd with 7 second duration means you need 30% cdr, which you already get on your Nunu build anyways). Mana cost is reduced to account for more usage as well.

The movement speed change is interesting. It's now a flat 10% at all ranks, meaning that the only incentive to level it up is to get extra attack speed. This leaves it as a better 1-point wonder in a world where Nunu already uses it as a 1-point wonder, especially when you don't have any carries that want extra attack speed.

"Go OOM if you max E first"

Yeah...that's because it's a buff for players who rank Q first. Riots not going to reward alternate skill order when they clearly buffed the early ranks of a skill to make it easier to sit on. Like the recent Swain changes that made him max Q over E.

The Ice Ball change is a significant buff. 25 less mana per cast at rank 5 is the biggest buff to a non ult skill mana wise that I can remember in all 4 seasons I've played in.m

Edit - Forgot about the change to Taric's Q pre rework that dropped the cost from 140 to 100. That was long overdue.

Nunu's base mana or one mana item can easily handle max rank E at level 13. No reason to max Q second, you gain MINUTES of extra uptime on your Consume buff by ranking it up.

I can see you play a lot of Nunu and enjoy him but you have a long way to go on him if you wanna understand him better and how he works.

Also you should never have one set path VIA skill order, sometimes you have to / need to mix it up depending on the game and how its going. For people who actually wanted to snowball there lanes as Nunu, actually gank maxing E first(while haveing 2 points in Q) was the best and you could legit go toe to toe with almost any other jungler early game form early Season 4 even into late Season 5. Anyone who has always maxed Q and played the invade type jungle Nunu will clearly see it as a buff because they aren't trying to think about there team but how badly they can take all the enemy junglers creeps (which well doesn't do anything anymore due to the anti-snowballing Riot has put into the game now).

As for the mana issue, it is an issue. Sometimes you are unable to get glacial / frozen heart as a 2nd item after your jungle item due to someone else on the other team either being AP heavy and fed or multiple AP heavy and you need a locket for your team.

Nah, I play Nunu specifically so I don't have to gank.

I always rush Rod of Ages on Nunu these days. The healing from using abilities and mana restore from taking damage is incredibly useful, and unlike Frozen Heart it's always good no matter what the enemy team comp is. Have you tried the new Catalyst items on Nunu yet?

Are we talking RoA on lane Nunu or Jungle Nunu?

Cause IMO I wouldn't grab it on either just because I like tank Nunu over AP alot more and for my lane Nunu I run spell vamp

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Jungle Nunu. And I take it FOR the tank. 500 health, 300 mana, and the Eternity passive giving me an extra 150-300 health per fight.

The One Nunu1 votes

I know what it does, and a Spirit Visage is just a better pick up over RoA which takes 10 mins to be fully "completed"

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Except for mana, which you are complaining about. Old school tanks have their entire kits designed around being forced to build mana, that's why Frozen Heart, Banshee's Veil and the like all had mana on them. Nunu's kit has not been updated to the point where you can ignore building mana on him, and RoA is an item that isn't dependent on comp and fixes his mana issues.

The One Nunu1 votes

Im complaining about mana because these 2 changes combined will pretty much force you to get a glacial as a 2nd (IMO) item due to the fact that both of them in the long run use up a ton more mana then the previous state of the skills.

RoA isn't the answer to his mana issues either(I don't even think id be able to pull it off in my ELO), if they are gonna make more changes to Nunu then id like to also see a bit of a buff on his Mana / Mana regen if they are gonna keep making it so his Mana pool becomes tighter then it already is.

Well, whatever. It works fine in my elo.

I just wish he had some incentive to keep autoattacking that didn't rely on biting a jungle monster.
