Bot System Messed Up?

So basically we were playing with these new bots that Riot has made. We noticed they were a little harder and actually made us play to our full potential. As in the beginning it explains why there are bots and what the whole deal is. So here's the weird part, at the end of the game, (we lost), we started talking to the "bots" and saying random things (not thinking they would respond) but they responded saying "xD" and regular things like that. We looked at the names and usually the bot names are "Ahri Bot", "Karthus Bot" and etc. They had names that you would think regular players would have. I'm just a little confused to why we were playing against real players when we were told in the beginning we were going against bots.
