Is Ezreal ever worth picking

So I've just come back to the league after about 3 yrs or so and a lot has changed, Ezreal seems to be below average. What iv gather is he's still a strong laner and it's extremely hard to shut him down completely, the problems seem to turn up in the mid to late game when all the other ADC's start to kick in and Ezreal simply doesn't have the damage to punch through their front line fast enough, You aren't dying sure but the problem is if their ADC isn't dying either you probably lose because they are putting out way more DPS than you.

I dropped blue build and results improved greatly but it still seems rather pathetic. I build the standard TF > Botrk > LDR

Tl'dr Am I doing something wrong or is this just Ezreal now (Safe but low impact comparatively)
