How do I properly leash?

Whenever I watch streams, it seems to me that the jungler attacks the mob, the top or supp/adc help atk to about 25% life and then back off, but whenever i do this in game i always get 'lol, that leash' or 'wtf that leash' etc, so what exactly am i supposed to be doing, since they never expound upon it.

give 2-3 autos a spell and leave.. thats it, nothing more.

You're doing fine, some junglers are just babies. The only time you really do more if they are going smiteless, which is something they need to let you know.

It has been answered but just give it 3 hits or so and go to lane quickly. I always watch the health bar and jg health. If there starting blue or red then it may take more hits. Also if they smite or not. Most jg champ will ping u and if there going blue or red ask them if there going to smite. Also you may not do anything wrong to get a comment from them, either they did something wrong which is most of the time or there just an idiot and your the fall guy. You don't have to leash either. Tell them your not the best at it until you become comfortable doing it. Its not hard though. If I have to get to lane I auto hit and maybe quick spam and bail.

It depends on your hero. Give a few autos and a spell right off the bat. If the main mob is to low toss another auto onto the sub mob (if there is one).

The most crucial thing imo is to be aware of the smite. If jun smites immediately then I usually leash the mob to critical health. If he holds smite then back off early because if he smites too soon by mistake sometimes it times in a way that you accidentally take the mob. Most junglers will danger ping when they're good to go though. A lot of leashing is a judgement call. I will say that if you do accidentally take it, that it is worth your time to help leash the next camp for him or he'll most likely fall behind in jun.
