I want to congratulate Ghostcrawler

tAjBernard··119 votes·6,814 views

On ruining yet another game.

On making it so the game is more about who you play than how you play.

On refusing to program hitboxes so that they look and act correctly.

On allowing the state of the game to deteriorate into complete and total garbage.

On being able to dupe another company into paying him a ton of money to perform terribly at his job.

I don't know who you have nude pics of Ghostcrawler, but congratulations, you have them on the right person. Because lord knows your shit work speaks for itself.

The problem with hitboxes is as old as the game. Can't really blame "the new guy" for that.

Yeah OP really showed his hand with that comment. He just wants to dump all his complaints on one person. He doesn't even know what Ghostcrawler's job is. It's a shitty ragepost that makes no constructive criticisms. "On allowing the state of the game to deteriorate into complete and total garbage" how the fuck is anyone supposed to respond to that lol. Is he mad because LeBlanc got a bad rework? Is he upset that Zoe got nerfs? No way to know.

This season isn't even that bad, it's just in the process of recovering from imbalances that were created in the preseason. Just like January of every previous year.

ikr people are whining and complaining about what ? lol this season is better then the others becuase of the runes and masteries being the same

Nah, he screwed up PvP so bad in WoW that when Blizz tried to apply for an E-Sports licence for WoW Arena, they got laughed out of the building.

Honestly the state of the game reminds me of TBC era, when Fury Warriors were nigh on unkillable because they had massive damage and lifesteal.

Oxyrotten5 votes

Well to be fair WoW never even tried to balance for PVP. But all the changes he did were for marketing purposes to increase profits (and his personal hatred of melee). And then he comes here and does the exact same thing, for the exact same reasons...

Which is completely unacceptable, I mean, fair enough he could get away with it in WoW because PvP was always tacked on as an afterthought due to a large desire for it from the beta community and the mainstay in WoW has always been dungeons and raids....

Here, there's no Raids or Dungeons to fall back on, nobody in the right mind is going to play bots instead of other players (exception of blasting through quests aside) balance is extremely important here and he's getting it completely wrong.

He doesn't just damage the gameplay, the community, he also damages the E-Sports scene with these questionable balance changes.

People don't watch League for insta-gib mode, they watch it for the tactics, the outplays, watching another team beat the other by pure skill and strategy....

There's been nothing but complaints about the current formula being "Lock the OP stuff, or ban it" for the past few seasons.

It's been like this since S5 when it was the team that gets Tristana wins, it's not entertaining, it's not the skill that's winning

It's picking whatever is busted.

Edit: Long gone are the days when we got hype for stuff like Visachaci getting a huge counterpick and going on to absolutely play out of his mind and dominate a game through his skill and champ knowledge or Voyboy knowing the absolute limits of his Olaf to hugely outplay in a 2 v 1, or Fakers famous Zed outplays.

It's now pick whatever is busted in the meta, team that gets the most busted comp wins unless they completely screws up.

Coincidence that he started working here season 5? Maybe. I'm pretty sure he started here season 5 anyway, I can't remember at the moment.

yup, Morello had stepped back and was on the outs in s5.

I mean yeah sure, we got Atmogs and league of Black Cleavers under Morello, but I'd take those any day over the metas we've had recently.

L Rayquaza11 votes

At least the champs that abused Atmogs don't have the mobility of a cat on cocaine

Jazzy Jesus9 votes

My only problem with that logic is that people don't want to play against something that is busted and nigh-impossible to beat, so wouldn't that make profits decrease somewhat?

Honestly I don't get the minds of game developers. They think that allowing some players to have huge power brings in the big bank, but what most players want from this type of game is a fair playing field. One where the skills of an individual speak for themselves, for better or worse.

Oxyrotten14 votes

Not at all. At least not noticeably. Tencents market isn't NA. Tencents primary market is the asian gaming cafe. The asian gaming cafe demands games under 30 mins. Also LCS just franchised into a billion dollar company as well. Riot cares about skin sales and the LCS, skins sell more when champs are OP, LCS does better when casters can scream louder at BIG PLAYS.

Jazzy Jesus3 votes

Yeah, makes sense I guess...

But that's not what making a great game is about. I understand that companies need to make their money, and I have nothing against that, but when monetary gain is prioritized entirely over everything else, it becomes pointless.

All these different developers (let's name Riot specifically) put on show after show and so many blog and dev posts about listening to the players and seeing where the community needs the game to go. And yet, they act like all of the community complaints are about arbitrary crap that doesn't have any real effect on the game, effectively ignoring and denying that they just said they want to listen to us.

I just wish so many good game developers would realize that this is exactly what they are doing.

I'm still pissed about how he ruined WoW and it's been years since I gave up on it because of him. It's the same old story. I get into a game that I am genuinely having fun in and out of nowhere his changes make it tiresome, boring, homogeneous and unfun. Same with WoW, same with League. Seriously, what is his problem? Does he actually believe this is good game design?

Ghostcrawler reminds me of Mike Tannenbum, super-GM of my favorite football team, known destroyer of organizations, who somehow tricks his boss into thinking he knows what he's doing while he proceeds to systematically ruin everything I hold dear.

Doesnt really applies only to assassins. There are mages or meele tanks/fighters who literally have the same pattern. the moment you stay in lane you auto lose. I understand champions being strong in lane but not unbeatable.

Terozu2 votes

Thats not really an invalid statement. Getting hit is just as much your fault as it is you opponents. If you got hit by anything, even targeted abilities you really were in the wrong spot. Theres cover all over the map, you can stay out of range. Like with Zoe she should never hit you with that Q or you deserved it. When laning it wont do any damage unless she winds it up in which case you have plenty of time to move behind a minion or two. If her E hits you, you werent patong attention or she ulted over a wave in which case her q wont hit. Getting hit means you were in the wrong spot to dodge. You gave them the opening just as much as they made it.

How about congratulating GC over all the good stuff thats happened?

10 bans, better splash arts, champ reworks, star guardian event, order vs chaos skins, implementation of free loot system, improvements to honor system...the list goes on and on

Lios Ashenblade10 votes

Ok so lots and lots of pretty ribbons, the game is still pretty unbalanced, moreso than it has been in years, like 2 out of 10 games feel meaningful, the rest are just stompfests

DeusVult6 votes

GC is in charge of balance. He has nothing to do with:

  • splash arts or skins
  • star guardian or any other type of event
  • loot system
  • honor system
  • 10 bans, which had been in the works dor a long time accoding to riot

GC has to do with the overall balance direction of the game over the last 2 and a half years, which has been turning it into shorter games, increasing damage overall, and investing more of teams power into the bot lane, with all early objectives being centered in bot lane ( more people, drag, first turret)

Lit Corn6 votes

I don't think you can put the blame on a single person , but yeah , the current state of balance of the game is just very bad , everything does too much dmges , tanks are tanky , do dmges and can push with demolition ( why would you pick a strong split pusher like jax , if you go dmges , you're useless anyway ) , adcs are too strong since a year and a half and instead of nerfing them ( aka , more gold to buy items , for example statik could cost 2700 g , and IE 3,5 k , or less gold / s since it was increased by 0,4 a while ago , and also they were getting one shoted so thats why they got buffed , but instead of giving them one shot potential to make them able to fit in a terrible meta , couldnt you nerf the other champs or items , such as lethality ??? ) . Issue is they made BRK cost more since adc where abusing it but actual brk users are useless now ( aka most of the dps melee ) . I mean i feel like every classes has too much options and abuse items that shouldnt be for them and then riot nerfs this and the class that is actually supposed to use these items becomes useless af ... Like the split pushers toplaner are so weak , tanks and adc push faster and safer , are better in tf and just eveyrwhere , there is no such thing as a midgame right now , its like laning phase , whoever gets first tower on botlane roams and gets every tower , if botlane roams too to answer they get fuked and cant farm , if they stay to farm yhey lose every tower , like there is no options , game lenght overall is the same but it goes from early game , to one good 2v2 in bot , insane snowball , adc hits 3 items , late game , and all the good midgame / sieging champions are just useless because towers fall so fast to everything else anyways ... if you wanna fix this revert the tower nerf to bot , they did that to reduce lane swap in competitive , but man competitive has like 0,01 % of the players of the game , the 99 % other are fuked , and even tho riot gets more moeny from esports , they could at least make a different meta for solo Q or so , because it feels terrible af .

Another Witch Hunt thread sky rockets to the top of the Boards.

How am I not surprised?

I would like to ask how 1 man is able to ruin an entire game. Its not as if an entire company has dozens of people developing, and playtesting said game.

Is Ghostcrawler in a leadership position? Yes, but that doesn't mean he is solely responsible for "ruining the game" in your eyes.

In most leadership positions, if the team you are leading fails at their jobs for 3 years straight, you get fired.

I saw enough in WoW.

The release DK, TBC Fury warrior and Frost mages through 2 expacs, Feral druids every arena season he was in charge.

These were all his balancing decision, I see the same kind of poor decision making going on here, so yeah, it's on him.

Still ghostcrawler wasnt the only one making the decision on the team. Yes, he is the lead designer manager but his job is mainly to check if any projet goes well.

The main reason why people blame him in wow is because we was vocal on the forum similar to Jeff for Overwatch.

He's the lead designer, therefore all changes have to be passed by him and green lit.

That really stupid week of Galio turning into a god one shot mage then immediately nerfed back down to trash? He green lit that

The Ardent Meta? He green lit it

Duskblade? Again, passed by him.

Damage being sky high? Him.

A Lead isn't just sat in an office away from all the staff looking at rule 34 Reddit, they're paid to oversee changes that affect the game for better or worse, and if they think something is too much, it's their job to tell the balancing team "No"

So he's either extremely lazy, or extremely incompetent. Then again, no doubt it'll be the same thing again if and when he steps down and moves on, that he'll try to blame the company for it and not his complete lack of Vision.

This. It's called "LEAD designer" for a reason. They're responsible for the general direction a game IS taking.

OP is over the top--so much exaggeration, so much written in the extreme, and little supporting of claims. How is this supposed to be productive? If one isn't going to be fair-minded, and if one won't take the time to substantiate what one claims, hopefully adding productive ideas along the way about what could be done differently, then what is the goal? This is just a bash-Riot-employee thread, and it reeks. If I get criticized in this way, I just disregard it.

Hitboxes aren't to blame, it's randomly incorrect angles displayed on skillshots like Blitzcrank Q and Jinx W that need to be addressed.

If we had an option to enable displaying of hitboxes on replays, people might actually start to understand how they function.
