Support champ pool for season 9

Angêl of Dêath··1 votes·5,687 views

Hey guys ^^ I have a duo that plays Xayah, Vayne and Twitch. We used to play really well together and so we want to start climbing together next season. I'm Gold IV in Solo/Duo and he's Silver. Our small goal is Plat, but we are both looking up at diamond - but that's really only if things go really well. I searched for some tips to climb and there's always something about narrowing your champion pool, playing as few champions as possible. I really want to make the climb as effecient as possible and so i need your help with my champion pool. I play Lulu, Sona, Nami, Janna, Soraka, Zyra, Rakan and i feel like thats a bit too much. I cant decide who should i pick. Even though i know they all serve similar purposes (aside from maybe Zyra and Rakan), i cant decide who to play because i enjoy them all. What do you think? Who would you choose to be in your champion pool? Who should i delete, change or maybe add? Appreciate all answers. :)

If you want to pure climb, One trick either Soraka or Zyra. Those are the two in your list which are Meta, and counter most of the rest of the meta when played correctly.

Nami and Lulu are boxed out of the meta right now because either their performance is too gated by their ADC (Nami) or because their offensive/defensive structures are too easy to work around (Lulu).

Soraka's kit can be used in about 40 different ways to accomplish an end. Good Predictive play with her E is extremely powerful. Likewise, Q is one of the strongest self peel mechanisms in the game. IF YOU HIT.

Zyra is simply the best Proxy carry in the game. I can win almost ANY role with her, simply because of how her plants work. As long as she's not standing still, she's a major disruptor.

Well, my adc is pretty good, the reason im not sure about Nami is because she is harder and i want to mainly focus on macro

Guardian Rakan is really good with Twitch and Vayne. He can peel and set up their all ins really well. He goes well with Xayah for obv reasons.

Rakan item 3096 item 3009 item 3109 item 3050 then anything of these: item 3001 item 3193 item 3504 item 2065 item 3107 the mask is good for your midlaner and on hit magic damage

You just RW and win, quite ridiculous tbh. Good all in vs mage supports, good at disrupting all ins with W, negating poke and ignite with his E's and guardian, good at setting up ganks too!

Best of all you can just sit in lane and do nothing and get loads of coin gold, no effort needed

Edit: Just know that your job and the ADC's job is to survive lane and carry late when you have items, you don't have to win lane with Vayne/Twitch

Keep rakan and put all the rest on hold because they are not that strong atm. I would suggest you pick up Pyke who is really strong. And either brand or velkoz if you want to stomp lane hard. Leona is also a really good support when you trust your ADC won't leave you hanging on your engages.

Thats actually surprising for me because everyone says rakan is in bad state rn. Anyway, thank you, ill definitely try Leona and Pyke. :)

Rakan is not S tier atm but since your pal plays xaya the combo is too good to pass. But make sure you watch a couple Vods of that duo and mainly how they handle levels 1-3 with pushing the lane with double xayah W etc. I am no expert on it but from what I hear it's quite strong. Also Rakan R->flash->W straight up wins you games late game.

Pyke is a champ that will singlehandedly take over games, yeah he is kinda busted still and you get to assassinate people which is a great change of scenery for a support main.(Again make sure to watch a couple vods and tips on runes and items, his passive is really great in lane but you need to be smart about it)

Leona is the easiest of the 3 because she is nigh unkillable early when Aftershock is proced. The only thing you need to be concerned is to not waste the aftershock proc for no reason, so keep good track of that.

On a side note, if the enemy has already picked something with a lot of CC like Leona or Thresh (or a generally CC heavy comp on other lanes), just make your life easy and pick Morgana. She is easy as fk to play, just don't put points in W until level 4 in a hard lane.

this rundown is really helpful, you're right about the combo. Ill check some videos.

Pyke is not in a good spot atm. He's easy to counter and will generally get you into 50% Territory.

The Lethality changes have made him very analog, easy to predict, and people know his counters by now. He's pretty much an Ult - Bot atm. If he tries to actually play, he's generally a feeder.

Leona has actual counters and while Mages are bot lane meta, I wouldn't advise one tricking her. If I know how to eliminate her, so do other players. Enough to where she will drag you down, even if you get good. I do like Leona. But I wouldn't rely on her for climbing. Maybe selective games for competing, but not climbing.

Thats what i thought about Pyke as well. When i lane against him, its pretty much free lane.

My friend and I like to play Neeko and Twitch, "Sneeko". It's pretty fun.

Actually, now that I think about it, replace rakan with zyra, she might have an easier time in bot lane than rakan.

Do you think Zyra could go with Xayah?

I think enchanters are really getting underestimated here. The idol buffs are pretty serious and adcs will probably be much more relevant when the crit item changes go through. Nami is a fantastic support for vayne and twitch because she's just so unreal in lane that even with vayne or twitch you have kill pressure on most lanes. You also bring 3 forms of cc which is vital for shutting down carries when your other lanes feed. There's a reason she was top tier even when other enchanters sucked.

I wouldn't recommend 1 tricking supps unless you're willing to spend a lot of time learning how to best your counters, though. 3 varied options with similar playstyles is pretty nice. Nami+rakan+zyra are a good example, enchanter + tank + mage gives you a lot of options, but each of them is a trigger-pull cc based pick maker. Meanwhile, Janna + thresh + velkoz means every time you change champ, you have to completely rethink your game mindset, from peel focused to engage to pressure, which can be pretty jarring. (also, going from a big pool you enjoy all of to 1 tricking can make you hate that champ, so take care of that if you do decide to 1 trick)

Thanks a lot. :)

in cases where people want to narrow their supp champion pools i always recommend morgana; she has a varied toolbox which can be easily used both offensively and defensively, has no horrible matchups while hard countering several other supports, and can pick between a mage and a slightly beefier build. id say she is very versatile and can slot into most teams, also her q feels so rewarding to hit, and most of the time you arent that punished if you miss it, you have tools to protect your adc while also having the tools for quite a lot of aggresion if you play it right.

I have been thinking about her too, she was one of my fav champs for a while and then i just stopped playing her because each time i played against one, i just picked enchanter support and gutted her down. That changed my opinion tbh.

Most of these I can imagine the scenarios and capabilities to entertain the idea they can be a "I guess" support at the very least.... with the exception being mordekiasor… what the heck is he going to provide 10 minutes in?

Utilization of dragon in team fights, turning the 5 v 5 into a 6 v 4 after you kill someone, a tanky damage absorber.
