Urgot Rework Theory Craft

Hiya Summoners!

So, many years ago, when I started playing League, I picked up this very exciting looking champion named Urgot Urgot . He was a weird, techno-maturgical monster that fired blaster beams and rockets and bombs. And I really enjoyed him way back then.

As time passed, he became kind of a drag because he just couldn't compete and so many better options for ADC left him in the dust. Over time, he practically vanished from play. And then.....

FINALLY HE IS BEING REWORKED! I must admit, of all the champions the rework crews have touched, Urgot is the one nearest and dearest to my heart. And, with some of the info sneaking its way out, it is surely sounding like he may be slipping into the Juggernaut category. However, some of the speculation says that he will still have a fair number of ranged abilities. Maybe even a ranged auto. Which led me to ask the following questions:

How would a Juggernaut work with a ranged attack? Aren't they supposed to get into the thick of things? What sort of gameplay exchanges are we looking at for a behemoth with artillery? And doesn't this sound like it may invite the same gameplay issues that Urgot currently faces?

I would be very interested to hear other players thoughts on the subject or hear any interesting tidbits others may have gathered about his upcoming rework. Here's to a bit of fun theorycrafting!

I don't see any reason why an Artillery champ couldn't have some tankiness to them. I recall pre rework Xerath having an armor passive, which seemed fair because in order to get most of his abilities he had to root himself. If Urgot were to become a super immobile artillery champ, he could possibly still keep his tanky marksman identity.

I would personally like it if Urgot remained a tanky marksman. He has issues where he is currently, but I don't think it should really change his role. (Honestly, I still see some Urgots dominate top lane (and FoxDrop posted a spectator video where an urgot mid beat Faker apparently, so he's got SOME use in his current role.))

Maybe they could rework it to give him a different Q entirely, and turn his E into something that empowers basic attacks? W shield is simple enough already, perhaps something with a short movement speed buff like Rumble?

Honestly, if they keep his design relatively the same, I'd like to see them play on the fact that Urgot has those legs, because in his current state he's really immobile. Maybe some Taliyah-like feature where he gets bonus move speed walking near walls, or a Talon-like ability to climb certain terrain.

I highly doubt that urgot will be a juggernaut. The idea of a tanky marksman is still pretty cool, because really the only who is also like that is Graves, and I would love someone to dethrown Graves in that niche.

I hope they keep urgots ranged attacks. He already had a very short range on his autos, so if they decreased the range a little that would be ok if he was going into juggernaut territory.

I really hope they don't change urgots ult, although I feel like that is gonna be the first thing to do.

Also, if riot sees this, please when you do giant enemy crabgots visual update, let him have the girl dangling over his shoulder.

Tanky Marksman (Aka, a literal Tank (an unit that can take damage, move slowly and blow everyone up with ranged attacks)) can work.

Since champions that have a high mobility and/or stealth mechanic can easily burst squishy ADCs within seconds, keeping Urgot as a more tankier Marksman is a great and unique idea, which I support.

Urgot was my first champion that I mained actively since mid 2014. He sparked my interest with his look, skins (I really wanted that Butcher skin) and unique voice over, that gave me a sense of relate, since I was somewhat easily frustrated.

I enjoy his current kit, its unique and can feel satisfying. I hope that Riot will honor what made Urgot so facinating to play (the personality, EQQQQ combo, his theme and lore) while also exploring some new ideas from the zombie cyborg archetype and adding the more fitting ones to the new Urgot.

The leaked model, whetever it was his new model or not, looked great in my opinion. It gives me hope.

I like the "more legs allow mobility" idea, even though all that fat does suggest slow moving hulk. On the other hand I would love him to keep/become the tanky marksman I have always visioned him to be. Unfortunately we cannot have both, probably. If I had the power to choose, I would probably choose the latter. However, my decision would be colored by the fact that I only play ARAMs and there are very few walls to climb over on Howling Abyss. Good thing I am not making those decisions. :)

I'll just throw a wild Urgot idea here. What if instead of the current Corrosive Charge, he would have a short burst of smaller acid bombs that worked like Xerath ult but at short to medium range, causing the current armor reduction style penalties for the targets hit? And maybe combine that power with some tankiness for the time Urgot launches those bombs (Add Armor/MR or maybe move the shield from W to E or something like that.). Ie: E would turn Urgot into a fortified immobile/slow moving short range grenade launcher for few seconds.

What we know so far -urgot will be a ranged juggernaut

  • he has an ability that will root him and give him ranged rockets
  • slowest base movespeed
  • ult pulls into a grinder -shotgun knees? -chainsaw hand for AA

My theory is that urgot is like a slow moving turret. His togglable ranged attack will deal a punishing amount of damage, coupled with an ability to blitz pull into a scary massive damage tank. His slow movespeed will be his main weakness, but once in close range of urgot it's hard to get out alive. My guess for his kit goes something like this

Passive - something that makes him tanky. Maybe damage reduction without moving. Q - Roots self in place. Gain ranged auto attack that does bonus damage. Similar to landing your E on urgot currently it immediately zones opponents W - Shotgun knees. A close range skill shot that slows. People that want to get close to urgot would have a hard time getting out if they can't duel him E - something to do with being tanky. Probably some kind of shield or has a passive ability that helps make him tankier. Would be really scary if we saw a scaled back urgot ult here that comes on a condition. R - Literally a blitz pull into a cup Ult. Deals stupid true damage and puts you in range of everything.

Thus urgots full combo would be R,AA,W,Q, auto till out of range. This would make urgot have a scary zone of control around him throughout all points of the game. However because of his slow movement speed it's easy to stay out of the zone providing your not laning against him. His main role was a staggeringly successful lane bully
