Ignite on Supports?

Recently I've been playing a lot of support champions, specifically Alistar support. I looked up several guides and watched LCS matches about Alistar , and I see most players run summoner 14 on him.

However, when I bring summoner 14 on Alistar in Ranked Solo games, I usually get flamed from my teammates, telling me I gotta run summoner 3 instead.

Any advice? Am I a noob for blindly following LCS builds? Why is summoner 3 favored in solo games, but in LCS you see ignite?

summoner 3 is better when:

  1. One or more of your teammates already have Ignite
  2. There is a dangerous assassin, or a very mobilie champion like LeeSin or Ahri or Vayne on the enemy team
  3. There is a champion on the enemy team that has a dangerous damaging AoE ability, examples: Fiddlesticks Kennen MonkeyKing
  4. Your support does NOT have kill potential early game
  5. Your team is lacking in CC
  6. There is a Nasus on the enemy team.

summoner 14 is better when:

  1. There is a champion on the enemy team that is very reliant on sustain (healing, spellvamp, lifesteal) examples: Vladimir Aatrox Swain DrMundo
  2. Your teammates are not using Ignite and there are no dangerous threats that need to be exhausted on the enemy team
  3. Your support does have kill potential early game
  4. Your team is early game focused, so you are trying to win the game as fast as possible, Ignite's damage help on that

Generally speaking, Exhaust scales better into late game than Ignite, unless the enemy team has sustain-reliant champions, then both options are equally strong late game. Otherwise Ignite is better as an early game focused spell that allows your team to have more kill potential and snowball better.

Exhaust in solo queue is usually prefered, since the adc is usually running heal. Its more or less the mentality that you're not supposed to get kills and that Exhaust is there for you to slow them down for your adc, or help them get away. Pretty much stems from the "I'm the adc, and I get it all, you get none" mentality.

Ignite, in the LCS though, is no surprise. Adcs run heal, ignite them first, and that heal is wasted. They are also more coordinated, and actually communicate. Solo queue pretty much has a minimal to no amount of communication.

if you take ignite or exhaust depndss so much on what lane you have in bot. What team they have. What summoners and champ played in your team at solo lanes. If your top laner and mid lanes takes ignite you should really consider exhaust. if you play vs swain top and vlad mid while your top takes tp and you mid laner say xerath take heal, then you should consider ignite. if the enemy team have a say zed, trynd, yi, katarina, alkali, exhaust will do tons of works in team fights since dose champ are dependent on quick burst or/and resets with exhaust will deny.

if we only look at bot lane. you should take ignite vs heal supports like soraka, nami, sona etc. recognize the strength of your bot lane. sway you play leona graves vs sona twitch you should take ignite for really strong kil persure. if you play kogmaw nami vs lucian natiluse you should take exhaust to survive there all in.

then its a question of preference. if you prefer to be a aggressive support then take ignite if you feel comfortable with it. take exhaust if you prefer it. i prefer ignite since i like the kill peruser and play very aggressive, its suite my play stayle and I'm know how to use it. I'm not as good with when to use exhaust. exhaust in general is harder summoner then ignite and can have hung impact or next to nothing depended on how you use it

Bring ignite if you have a lot of kill pressure in the lane and can snowball off of it. A lot of pros supports bring it because at that high level, a single kill can end up snowballing the game in their favor.

Exhaust is best if you are going up usually against a mid laner that has a predictable damage pattern, like Zed, when he ults, you exhaust him, and it's not very hard to do and it just screws up his combo hard. It's not so great for example against LeBlanc since her combo is extremely quick, meaning you would have to react instantly, and that's not always possible, not to mention, her ult is on a 20-30 sec CD, so it's not that efficient.
