Rune suggestions for a fresh level 20?

I've been waiting to purchase runes until I hit level 20 (which is today wooh!), but I can already tell it's gonna be a bit challanging.

First, I'll only have two rune pages... But I play multiple champions frequently. Should I just build an AP and AD rune page until I get more? Or just stick with two champs until then?

Second, how much do they really improve gameplay? I've been waiting to jungle Kha'Zix until I got runes, and I still have my doubts that they'll make-or-break my jungling path.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Start by getting flat armor and flat MR runes first since they will work on any champ and provid useful damage reduction.

Followed by AD reds and AD quints (last hitting and auto attack harassing are still effective on mages early game)

Then Magic pen Reds and AP quints (can get this before the AD if you know you are playing magic damage champs instead of AD champs)

you will have everything you need to cover all champs to at least some degree with these runes mentioned above. After that buy whatever you feel you need like attack speed reds and quints or magic pen Quints etc.

Overall impact on the game play is decent early to mid game but the power they offer does scale off in longer games even if you get the per level runes. Think of them as covering a champs weak points early game as the best way to treat them.

^ Came in to write pretty much this.

When you have the ability to buy extra pages, try Health/Level yellow, and CDR/Level blue. Very useful for a lot of champions/matchups.

AP and AD runes for 2 pages is a general rule of thumb when starting out. Just check some guides for general position runes and start with those. Make the pages of the 2 positions you wanna play most.

TIER 2 runes are for sale 1 ip only now, so u can get a set of tier 2 until u get enough ip saved up for tier 3.

Get the basics:

AD Quints AP Quints AD Reds Mpen Reds Armor Yellows HP/per lvl Yellows MR Blues CDR/per lvl Blues

With these, you should be able to suit the basic needs of most champs. The rest is gucci.

If you're NEW new to mobas, take AD quints, AD marks, Armor seals and MR glyphs. You need the extra physical damage to help you practice csing (arguably the most important skill in the game.)

Part 1) When I started out, I made an AD page, an AP page, and a tank page. then when I got enough for page 4, I made a jungle page. Before I got page 4, I would use my tank page for jungling. In your case, I would save for the third page, so you can decide to use it for your Kha'zix jungling or something else entirely.

Part 2) YES, YES THEY DO. You know the items you can buy in game? You need those to win don't ya? Same goes for runes and masteries. The difference is, that once you have those runes you get them boom level 1 in game (if you selected them to use in champion select). Items you need to progress to.

I hope this helped. V~

Runes are for the early laning phase of the game. By the time you have 1000 health, that bonus 10 health or whatever is useless, so just use the runes to help boost your survivability and damage output pre-level-6

Starting rune pages depend on what kind of champions you play. I'm going to leave general pages with classes above the sets.

ADCs

9x AD red 9x Armor yellow 9x Magic resist blue 3x Attack speed Quint

AP mid

9x Magic pen red 9x Armor yellow 9x Magic resist OR AP blue 3x AP quint

Support (mage)

9x Magic pen red 9x HP yellow 6x Magic resist blue 3x Mana regen blue 3x Armor quint

Support (tank)

9x Armor red 9x HP yellow 9x Magic resist blue 3x Armor quint

AD assassin

9x Armor pen red 9x Armor yellow 9x Magic resist blue 3x Armor pen OR AD quint

Devourer jungler

9x Attack speed red 9x Armor yellow 9x Magic resist blue 3x attack speed quint

Runic echoes jungler

9x Magic penetration red 9x Armor yellow 9x AP blue 3x AP quint

Warrior jungler 9x AD red 9x Armor yellow 9x Magic resist blue 3x AD quint

Everything else is either situational or repetitive. These are all really basic and ideally there will be specific pages for matchups (especially in the midlane where you may opt for MR over AP in the blues or for CDR, etc.) And it also varies depending on champion. Unfortunately runes are very expensive and I know the pain of not having what I need.

I know you didn't ask about it, but IP boosts really aren't worth the cost in the long run. Eventually you'll run out of things to buy. I own every champion and all of the viable runes (no energy regen, XP, death timer, etc runes) and still have a load of IP leftover. The only way to really blow it is on the 1500 IP icons that come out every once in awhile and then on the new champs for 7800 whenever they come out.
