Why is Poacher's Dirk a thing?

I know this is unimportant and very small, but why buy item 3252? I know it transforms into a item 3134 after killing 3 monsters from the enemy jungle but it has a 60 sec cooldown in between each monster killed, meaning that by the time you actually transform this thing you probably either farmed up or just passively generated enough gold to actually buy a serrated dirk. So why the hell would I actually waste 750 Gold on this?

I'm guessing they had Shaco LeeSin RekSai in mind. Meanwhile Zephyr and sword of the occult were removed because not enought people were buying them.

In theory, it's to make counterjungling more rewarding. In practice, having to wait 60 seconds between charges makes it terrible.

If it wasnt for that 60 sec cd i would actually buy it

Because ad laners got Cull.

It was probably aimed towards Kindred and other counter junglers. If youre building a item 3142 you can buy item 3252 first and then turn it into a item 3134 while you are saving for item 3142.

saves you 350 gold. pretty much the only reason.

I think it's more a reward for an assassin who can't roam from mid lane.

For example, Talon may be pressured in lane and can't roam, but if he buys this he can hop over the wall, grab some raptors and get back to lane. Enemy camps take 2 minutes to respawn so the 60 second cooldown isn't that big a deal if you're in mid lane.

It might actually be worth buying if Scuttle counted...

For when you've made the enemy jungler your bitch, and their jungle is now yours; and you're BM enough to buy it just to let them know it too.

A huge "You're being dominated" sign to put the enemy jungler down. And although this is a specific scenario, if bought after being caught taking their camp, killing them, and finishing the camp, moving to their opposite jungle, and waiting in a bush to ambush them there, too; then you've already won.

the 60 seconds cooldown kills the item's intention. While you can build items with Serrated you cannot build items with Poacher

Every jungler is able to take at least 2 camps when counter jungling and cooldown is irrelevant

FastAsHeck3/28/2017, 3:24:11 PM2 votes

I just think it's a massive investment for a very small reward. Maybe it would have been fine without the cooldown, clearing an entire side of the enemy jungle is not easy.

Honestly, if were going to compare it to cull, I should point out that even with a 60 second CD, it only goes on CD after the first, so it will only take about 2 minutes to stack if you're optimizing for it.

Conversely, Cull needs 100 minion kills, and I think waves come every 30 seconds. So fully stacking cull would take several minutes to actually fully stack up.

The thing with poacher's knife is, it's kinda designed to be niche as it encourages poaching camps from your enemies. One issue is that it could be difficult to balance. cause if a Jungler starts snowballing, poaching camps is a given. Though for Riot to explore the poaching play style, this works way better than the old poacher's knife from season 5. Simply because once you bought it, it had to be your main focus, and the enemy could easily counter it. (shutting you down for good)

But with this rendition, the act of poaching is a temporary strat that can give you a boost. But that said, making it upgrade to a Lethality item, limits the champion pool, who would try this in the first place. Also not useful super Early, as Dirk doesn't upgrade into any of the current tier 3 jungle items.

Because Ivern is a thing. . . . Except he doesn't give a damn about AD or armor pen. :/

Because it saves you 350g that you can use to accelerate the rest of your built. It's prettymuch item 1083 for junglers, In most cases it sets you to far behind when bought to make the payoff really worth it, but theoretically you sacrifice some early power for a faster midgame powerspike.

It make u save 350... its huge.

Are u really asking why ??? Why should u save some gold ?

Downsides of item 3252 :

  • games are so snow bally
  • item 3134 are for assassins... and they aren't great in jungle atm(most). Cause they take too much damage and jungle and take to much time to clear, they don't have luxe to invade. That's what happen when u nerf smite and up mob damage.
  • cd on passive should be 45 or 30

btw item 3134 items aren't so great atm... item 3142 is still core for many... but its better to rush item 3071 in most case. item 3107 item 3109 item 3190 item 3504 are the best items atm... item 3153 too
